X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27th, 2016)

Cannot wait for this film. Loved Apocalypse in the comics and I am very excited to see how they handle him in the third film.

Watching the cartoons as a kid, Apocalypse was always the villain that I found most interesting by far. Ever since the first X-Men movie came out I've been waiting for them to use him in the movies. I can't wait to see how they do it finally.

hahaa... I feel like on my side I have cut down some overall on how often I'd bother making a movie having its own thread, I don't think I'm as quick to it anymore as in years past. To otherwise just trust that it can have a smaller amount of discussion in the general movie thread. and I mean, those bad choices I've made in the last 2-3 years, the "ants free market", if you will, wound up putting those right where they deserved to be. Getting 5 replies or less, and quickly banishing back to the double digit pages.

and I think I said this back in the DOFP thread... the credits tease we got on the end of that, the Egyptian scene we got, when the camera panned around on that character's face, the Apocalypse guy, I honestly at first thought it was Aaron Taylor Johnson, it looked JUST like him. and I was like, seriously, don't tell me they got the one guy who played the OTHER version of Quicksilver over in the Avengers.

They did really well with the last X-Men movie, I think this will continue with Apocalypse.

Really? Given Singer's record, I say this is all but assured to be a solid, well made, but not particularly groundbreaking, movie. Like the rest of his X-Men movies.

I definitely believe this trilogy will be stronger in the end than the original X-X3 trilogy. The first movie alone already trumped the original 3.

that's because singer will probably finish this trilogy and not let X3 become absolute shit.

I do too, and I would be extremely shocked if we're wrong, but it's a far cry from "better than Last Stand" to "Avengers/Dark Knight level".

I like what they have been building with the new cast of X-Men and I think Apocalypse gives them an opportunity to have the best villain in any of the movies. I am saying potential, not that I think it will be better than Dark Knight or Avengers.

well actually Apocalypse is more or less like the Thanos-level type of villain in the XMen world, right? he's pretty much the top of the food chain?

Yeah, I agree that they have some sweet things set up. I don't think Singer ever swings for the fences though, he's more of a consistent get-on-base hitter, (disclaimer: I don't understand baseball), so that's more or less what I'm expecting.

I thought the best part of DOFP was how well they handled the Sentinels overpowering the X-Men, you really bought that they characters were fucked. I hope they bring some of that to Apocalypse.

To the best of my knowledge. I'm interested in how well that'll translate to the screen; I know Whedon is on the record saying he doesn't think a Thanos-level villain would work in film because it doesn't keep the whole thing grounded enough (but he might just be trying to throw us off the trail of Avengers 3).

They seriously fucked up the Dark Phoenix story, so it would be cool if they fixed that. I mean for Christ's sake, Dark Phoenix would be a very serious threat to the JLA, but you never knew that from the movie.

As for Apocalypse, I know that time continuity quantum has been felt with DOFP, but I would love to see a Age Of Apocalypse storyline.

I have no idea who he is, but realistically this actor will probably be either engulfed in costume or makeup or completely CGI'd over. So realistically it won't be hard to pull of Apocalypse. They'll probably alter his voice as well.

Ha I was being satirical. I have no doubt he'll do good. Marvel has yet to do a poor casting or at least in my eyes.
