Dave solo

I think Dave has been sounding as good as ever in these at home shows. Similar to when he plays with Tim, I don't quite understand why he changes so much with the full band. I get you'd naturally bring more energy, but it's almost like 2 different singing styles completely. His full band voice is just way hit or miss these days, but on these solo shows he's sounding perfect just about every time. I love the way his voice has aged, especially on when plays stuff like Cry Freedom, or Best of Whats Around. It's just cool.

He has been sounding good lately. Might be a few factors. These are just guesses on my part:

    1) He's had rest for his vocals. Touring is straining and wears his voice out. He's not performing nearly as much as he usually does in a normal year.

    2) It's a super quiet environment in his own quiet room at home. So he can use a lot more restraint with his voice. I have to imagine standing in from of 15-20k people you just naturally want to belt it out.

    3) He isn't fighting the wall of sound that is a full band around him. I think he just has to sing louder and fuller with the band and therefore has less control and more stress on his vocal cords.

    Again, just my guesses...

As a vocalist myself, I'd say all of this sounds correct ^
