There are some spots for me where it's a little obtuse and some lulls (as is the case with basically everything he's done post-The Wall) but I do agree it's probably his 2nd best solo record behind 'Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking.'

Going to see him tonight in Chicago, can't wait!

wait so when Have a Cigar ends, the volume fades down for the last like 20 seconds. Is that a subtle jab at the radio industry for doing their DJ buffer or whatever and talking over the music?

    Is that a thing?

I think it’s just the transition from song to guy listening to song on the radio, which transitions to guy flipping through channels and finding WYWH, playing along with it, and then WYWH starting in earnest.

For most bands, my favorite album is what I think is their best album. For Floyd, WYWH is my favorite album but I think Animals is their best.

Floyd has so many undeniably good albums.

    AHM
    Meddle
    DSOTM
    WYWH
    Animals
    Wall

My opinion of their best could really come from any of those at any point in the week.

Meddle is by far my favorite, but I think DSOTM is their best. Animals is right up there though for me personally.

I used to have this awesome hat with the boatman logo... can’t find a replacement anywhere. And it’s infuriating that 97% of the Floyd merch has the DSOTM prism on it

+1. My fave floyd shirt is my WYWH diver shirt, where a yoga master was standing upside down under water to make it look like he dove in without any splash or ripples:

THat's the type of shit that Storm Thurgason was famous for, and rightfully so.

Pink Floyd FB page just shared this version of On the Turning Away...

    https://youtu.be/MIKeCGXFMuo

Admittedly, I haven't really listened to it in a while but, man what a GREAT song. Great lyrics and of course Gilmour's playing is fantastic but the small things like where the drums come in, just take the song over the top.

Thanks for posting! Have not listened to this song in years. Didn't realize how timeless the sound and lyrics of this song are. Wow, shows how much of an artist, and dare I say genius, Gilmour is.

Waters wrote some great lyrics, but Pink Floyd isn't Pink Floyd without David Gilmour.

I mean, Waters wrote basically all the lyrics for all the best Floyd songs. I'd say they're both equal contributors to Floyd's greatness.

floyd as a whole was always greater than the sum of its parts. ‘louder than words’ isn’t the greatest song by any stretch of the imagination, but i give them props for pretty much acknowledging that on the endless river.

Funny this thread got topped today, just ordered my tickets for Brit Floyd for the Wallingford, CT show. They're doing a 40 years of The Wall tour, really looking forward to this one. I've seen them twice and they were phenomenal.

i just hope some of those instruments actually go to someone who intends to continue to create new music with them. how cool would it be 20 years on down the road if some band creates another iconic song or album or solo with that black strat?
