I really like all of those songs. I wish that he would just stick with writing quality music and avoid at all costs that crap he did on Battle Studies. He proved that with Continuum he can be a really good song writer and if you've ever seen him live--especially if it was with the trio--you know he is nothing short of fantastic live. His guitar playing ability should be what he builds around instead of building around crappy lyrics like he has at times. These three songs sound better than anything off of Battle Studies.

^Nope, I got Whiskey. You might just be able to click around on his video page to find Whiskey.

Thanks for posting those videos. I was so pumped to hear that Mayer was moving into a folk direction (being a huge Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Neil Youngs, and American Beauty Dead fan). Those songs are definitely a step in the right direction for Mayer and I'd love to see him get to the point where he melds the folk and blues together. Also very enjoyable to see that he picked up the harmonica.

I dig all three of those songs. I'm glad to see he's back doing shit he wants to do and not appeasing a fanbase or record company. I didn't dislike Battle Studies, but you can tell it was aimed much more toward his old audience that may have been thrown a little bit by Continuum which was amazing. This is a lot more Room for Squares-ish with less pop to it. I like it. Hopefully he starts touring again soon. I have to say though, his live show was fucking phenomenal this past tour so I hope this new style doesn't change his live shows.

I have to give them more listens. But my first impression is the same impression Battle Studies gave me - mediocrity.

I'm borderline giving up on the guy. I was starting to gain hope after Continuum but he sort of crushed it.

Some of his acoustic stuff is incredible. The Village Sessions are great and so are the acoustic tracks from Where The Light Is. I'm going to check out these new songs now. That's an interesting look he's going with now. How many times has he changed his appearance?

Ah nevermind. This isn't a John Mayer song. It's a David LaBruyere song (his bassist when he plays full band) featuring John Mayer.

Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey is pretty decent. Wasn't a huge fan of Age of Worry upon first listen but it could grow on me. I think he's going to have a hard time finding a fan base for his folk stuff though. His biggest fans are chicks who like his sensitive acoustic stuff, and it seems like a vast majority of the public either don't like his music or think he's a douche so they won't give him a chance. I don't think he really gives a shit anymore about mass appeal though, at least not as much as he has in the past, although what the fuck do I know.. I like this direction he's trying out though. Say what you will, but the guy is so talented that he has had huge success in every genre he has tried his hand at thus far.

Something Like Olivia is super catchy and not that bad at all. Just hope he has got all of his Battle Studies stuff out of him. I had such high hopes for that album too after watching do all these online videos for the record. But I guess from past experience with another band doing that around 2005 I should have known better.
