In YOUR opinion, is Dave mailing it in this summer?

The title of this thread should really be...Has the Dave Matthews Band lost their balls? They are too conscious of themselves. You heard it on the webcast when Dave mentioned screwing up and being broadcast. He plays it off but I really think that there is a lot of truth there.

He is very neurotic/nervous/embarrassed about such things. Anytime he's on tv, especially without the band, he's a mess. And he usually compensates with fart jokes.

When songs that are played daily have major flubs, that looks 10x worse than taking a shot in the dark at a deep track and screwing it up. In the latter situation, I'd still praise them for trying.

"Not enjoying" was probably the wrong choice of words. Disappointed seems more appropriate. I enjoy pretty much all of the shows I go to, but this #DMB2Sets thing is getting old real fast, unless the do something about it.

I agree with the DMB2SETS. I think it's nonsense. But from what I read, peoplel LovvvvvvvvvvvE the format. Idk. Whole website is just a bitchfest. I'm part of it

Absolutely NOT mailing it in. They still play their asses off every night. I'm not worried about variety at all. I go to 4-5 shows per year & could care less about what they play at shows I'm not attending.

The problem is some of the "regular" songs they have been playing don't sit well with the hardcore fans, yet are highlights for the casual fan.

There are 15-20 songs that I wished were played at my shows this year, but I'm not going to make a huge deal about it. (I do enjoy reading about it though.) If your favorite team won the WS every year it wouldn't be as memorable as their first in 10 years, or 106 years in the case for the Cubs. The fact is, you still went to the games, hung out with friends, partied, and had a good time.

I don't know how I'd feel about a summer without DMB, so I consider myself pretty lucky to experience it in excess over the past 15 years. A few duds will not change my opinion on one of the most consistently impressive bands that I have ever seen.

To put into perspective, this year I had yet another great camping experience at Sleepybear, had Pit both nights at NI, experienced NI for the first time, saw Sledgehammer again (one of my favorite DMB covers), saw the LL for the first time since 2001, got my first IBYU, my first exerience seeing a full-band acoustic set, a pretty bad ass Paul Simon cover, had VIP tix to one show, first LBV since 2000, & my wife's dad sat with me at his first DMB show. I'd say that was a pretty good year.

My only complaint: Shake Me closing the show is atrocious, and as of late, I think that may have been fixed.

I've been to over 150 PJ shows.....the way it happens is the same way Ed fucks up on songs often and needs to look at his book.......I know what you're going to say "ED and PJ take more chances". True. ED still fucks up on easy songs though

But the distinction I'm trying to make is between sheer numerical variety, and whether or not they're playing what most of us on this board would like to hear. I agree, 20 songs isn't nothing, certainly. But I'm just saying that this tour isn't exactly an anomaly for them. And that they play songs we don't care for is a matter of taste, not variety. Dave has bad taste in his own music.

Your first sentence is the argument I hate most. You absolutely do not need bad shows to appreciate good ones. Every night can be awesome.

And when the Cubs suck, do you defend them and say, "Well they're out there giving it their best!" No fucking way - you're complaining about the ownership being cheap, the GM making shitty moves, players underperforming, etc. The difference is in sports those guys are what they are - they can't choose to hit a home run every at bat, or throw a shutout every night.

Being great is 100% within DMB's control.

Lately leaving a show has been like leaving a Bruins/Sox/whatever game that you were lucky enough to attend but unfortunately had to see a loss. Sure I had a good time, just wish we could've gotten the win...

Trouble is DMB controls their own destiny. They should win every night. Everyone should leave the venue like they just saw their team win the world series every night.

I think part of the reason they keep touring is their road crew. A lot of people that the band considers "family" relies on them to tour annually so they can remain employed.

he does. but they take a lot more chances than DMB does and so not only is it more acceptable, you can also praise it.

I wouldn't say I thought Folsom's Angel was "spectacular" but I agree they should give it a go... Especially in place of another run of Everyday/ You & Me. It would at least add variety.

West Palm shows were solid. Only issue is the Ladies made the end stupidly predictable. Otherwise shows were solid

I hate grey street to close though yet I get it every show

Overall though this acoustic set is making the whole tour predictable and it's a bummer. Just put Tim on an acoustic during a normal show now and again
