Expectations

Maybe it's a matter of expectations but I left the gorge this year hugely disappointed. Propabaly the worst sets in the ten years I have been going and legitimately questioned whether I would attend next year. I went to Bend and Friday was almost the exact same set. Do they not think that a lot of people travel and saw those shows? This tour has really sucked and I cannot believe how lazy/inconsiderate Dave is in choosing sets. I am extremely pessimistic about the future because Dave can play the shittiest most redundant sets and people will continue to go to shows at least the casual fan base....

I am thinking that to enjoy future shows I just have to lower my expectations of this band and accept that they are just going to play mediocre sets from now on.

To those who are not happy with sets (which is a lot of people) will you be lowering your expectations or simply go to less or no shows?

they've been doing this for about the past 3 years and attendance has dropped. i think even the casual fan has stopped caring about this band. this tour was a gimmick to get attendance back up and, naturally, the band shit the bed with it.

yes, that band "gave it their all" each night...but they gave it their all to shitty songs that they've played the shit out of the past 3 years while their best material gets a handful of plays

I will be going to the same amount of shows. I never really went to a wide range of locations but a 2 night stand at SPAC will fill the want in seeing the band. I was satisfied with the 2 shows I saw this year but I can see how traveling to different venues will no longer appeal to anyone anymore after this tour.

I seriously doubt the band gives a shit if attendance fluctuates up or down. They have enough money to last them the rest of their lives a hundred times over, they're just having fun at this point.

That's the problem they are comfortable and don't care about taking risks anymore. It doesn't help when you have dipshits that freak out when they play Can't Stop but to each their own I suppose.

And I know this has been happening for a number of years now but the two sets was the last nail in the coffin. They could have made it the best tour in years instead they picked a handful of songs for the acoustic and played them the entire fucking tour. Shitting the bed is an understatement.

I agree, but it's important to remember that it's your problem, it's not the band's problem, and if you stop attending shows that won't be the band's problem either.

It's quite clear and sad that the band is not living up to their potential. It is their problem if attendance continues to decline as it has the past few years.

How is it their problem? What exactly happens to them if attendance declines?

I think they do give a shit if attendance fluctuates. Sure, the band is well off for the rest of their lives, but what about their crew? I've heard numerous times that a big reason they still tour is to give their crew, who are like family, steady jobs and a reliable source of income.

Expectations are always a tad high every year. I don't recall Dave saying "I'm older and tired" at any pt besides last night in chula (in the past few years)

They still do it "good" or I wouldn't go. They still do it "better" than most bands (touring and variety of songs". Que up the "Phish fans". Nobody's Phish!!!!!!!!

I'll look at this tour as just a somewhat failed experiment tour ...not really terrible, but not anything great. Nothing stands out. This is my least favorite tour of all time...but I'll be positive and say that they're going into the studio soon & I'm looking forward to a new album + support tour.

I can care less what the band plays at bend, Tampa, Michigan, Texas and those other single night shows... As long as they bring it at spac Camden Hartford Chicago/ alpine west palm and gorge that's all that matters lol... For the most part they did a solid job but it was way too redundant

First of all your point is dumb, they should want to bring it every show regardless of location, second of all it's you COULDN'T care less, not you could

I saw 12 shows this year and while they were fun I saw some stuff way too much. I saw if only 8 times. That's insane. Really this tour was lack luster but my biggest issue is the lovely ladies making every set they were a part of stupidly predictable. The acoustic sets have been almost exactly the same all tour also. Grey street... I saw it close six times. What the hell is that

not a washer by any means and agree with many of the points that this tour is just...meh...to be nice about it. but grey street is solid. ants may think its a shell and all that but its solid. can't hate on grey street.

Of the bands that tour without a stagnant setlist DMB is probably the worst at it.

I mean ... yeah the sets have been redundant.. but if the band were to "hang them up" tomorrow every single person posting in this thread would be sad and unhappy. Enjoy what they give us now .. It will NOT be here forever. They've given us way more than 99% of the touring bands that have a "large fan base" have ever give their fans.

the lovely ladies overdose which included symptoms such as: frequent facepalming, pointless drunken soldier volcals, and predictable setlists to me is the biggest con of this tour.

although to me the biggest pro is the fact mercy and gaucho were sharply reduced. because the previous 2 years of both songs were getting so redundant. i would never wish the 14 minute mercy from hartford n2 2013 on my worse enemy.

This 100 percent....I enjoyed the hell out of myself at The Gorge and Deer Creek...the day I have no DMB summer shows to look forward to is going to be a sad day. There are certainly songs I don't look forward to, but when they get played during a show I always seem to find myself getting into them...except Out of My Hands, lol....the negativity of this places truly amazes me.
