The folks who don't care about sets will be entertained either way. Whether they play the same acoustic set over and over or change it up all of the time, they will keep going to shows. They folks who do care about variety and want some TDs will get bored and stop going, so basically what I am saying is that the band should have more variety in the sets they play or fans will stop traveling to see them play, or just stop going to shows in general.

    * I normally don't chime in here, but I am bored at work and wanted to get in on the action.

Exactly. You get it. Others are having trouble with this logic. Casuals are not going away either way.

Just curious......why would anyone want to them to return to playing 18-19 songs per show instead of 24-26 songs per show.

    2013 - avg # of songs = 20.04
    2014 - avg # of songs = 23.60

3 extra songs is really disappointing with all the extra time, especially if those 3 are TMTT, Sugar Man, and Out of My Hands.

I'd like to see #DMB2Sets return in 2015 with just a little tweaking.

    Acoustic Set 10-11 songs
    Electric Set 10-11 songs
    Encore 2-3 songs

Max of 1 non traditional cover per show
    No Lovely Ladies
No Donkey Fucking in the encore or main set closer.
Random song placement (switching between acoustic and electric sets)

I understand your point but OOMH is a terrible example. It was played what? once or twice?

If it is a mix up that is always wanted, how about a tour where you don't know if they are going to play acoustic/electric or just an electric set? Just another element of "what do we get tonight?"

I do know what it is like to go to multiple shows in a summer and hear the same song over and over again, it gets old fast. That's why I cut back, went to one show this summer and loved every minute of it. No complaints from me on the one show, even with the monkey closer.

    Acoustic

    Jimi Thing->WWBOM outro->
    PNP/Rapunzel
    Snow Outside
    Lover Lay Down
    Stolen Away
    R&R
    BOWA
    Seek Up
    The Riff
    Too Much

    Electric

    Crash Into Me
    Pig
    So Right
    Fool to Think
    You Never Know
    Shake Me
    Broken Things
    So Much To Say->ASTB->
    Ants
    Halloween

    Baby Blue
    Good Good Time
    The Stone

I don't think many would complain if this set was the norm and it would be so easy to do.

They should check out the way that Pearl Jame does a show. 3 Sets. First set starts off with 2 or 3 softer, slower songs. Then from the 4th song on, they smack you in the mouth with rocking tunes. First set is usually 15 songs. Take a 10 minute break. Come back out and do a 6-8 song acoustic encore. Take another 10 minute break and come back with a 4 song rocking encore. I never leave those shows wanting more. I saw them play 35 songs in Charlottesville last fall. Can't remember the last time dmb ever did that. I've been to a ton of dmb shows over the years, but i must say that i have been going to more and more pearl jam shows in the last couple of years because the sets are more interesting and the shows flow a lot better. Maybe dmb should try something new like that

Exactly, the precedent is set now. I honestly would prefer they follow the PJ and Radiohead format of playing 24-26 songs in a set/encore/encore format, but that's just me.

That would be great. But, DaVE isn't interested in pleasing anyone but himself.

i hope they do 2 sets again but after talking to Carter before the Chicago show, I'm not sure they will. He said it's really taxing on the band to be out there for much longer.

My main complaint with the acoustic sets were they got repetitive and stale. Same 12-15 songs. I would've loved to see pretty much every song get thrown into the acoustic set at some point (Jimi, Stone, etc). Mix it up a bit and it'd be that much better.

Total on stage time? A few minutes longer (there are posts with actual times)

Total time from acoustic start to electric finish (break included)? 1 hour longer (7:30 start instead of 8:30 start)

I can understand Carter saying that because he drums his ass off, though. But I don't think it's taxing on the whole band.

Carter and Dave work twice as hard as any other member of the band, so they're the limiting factor. I was fine with the old format, just doing a standard 2.5 hour show. Just PLAY BETTER SETS! That set I saw in Blossom 2013 should be the norm, not a rare exception! I honestly didn't enjoy the acoustic set that much and wouldn't miss it. Good for a change up, but I felt like they wasted some of their late show A GAME in the acoustic set with shortened, weaker versions.

A very easy fix, but one that seems impossible for this band.

Not only taxing on the band, but the crew too. Backstage with Henry this year, he was completely exhausted. Setting up and running 2 kits I think took a toll on him. He had to switch things out between the two as well. Basically non stop the entire day.

Maybe dmb should try something new like that
I'm a big fan of both bands, but this is an apples to oranges comparison. I saw PJ both nights in Amsterdam this June. They played 32 songs on N1 and 29 songs on N2. But there were 6 repeats. Also, nearly every PJ song was a carbon copy of the album version...not much variation in the live versions. The shows were great, but after two in a row, I had my fill. DMB on the other hand rarely plays repeats for multi-night venues and every once in a while (at least on this last tour) you'll get an extended jam or something unique.

At the end of the day, following the either band on the road will get boring. Before long you'll end up hearing the same shit over and over.

I think that Credin has the right idea. Cut back on number of shows attended and quit obsessing over distant setlists. I used to average 4-5 shows per year. I went to only one this year, Pelham, and was quite satisfied. Unfortunately, collecting audience recordings just isn't fun anymore with the current set design. C'est la vie.

Bring it back, don't bring it back, I don't care. Just make sure You & Me is played at least twice a night.

I'd rather go with standard set of years past rather than the two sets. May be in the minority, but was not impressed with the acoustic set. Just a watered down version of the electric songs. Dave can always throw in an acoustic two or three in the regular set. But, heck, I usually prefer an all-band E1 anyway, so the fewer acoustic, the better for me.
