I was wondering how worried I should be about Ebola so I came to ants. I see justink, the guy who is literally (and I mean the dictionary definition of literally) wrong about everything, thinks its a big deal, very threatening. So I can real easy now.

I'm not worried about. That doesn't mean its a great idea to just welcome it into our country by the plane load.

Sneezed pretty loudly the other day in a microbiology class. cursed ebola under my breath just loud enough for some nearby classmates to hear. They got a kick out of it.

I'm not too worried about it. I remember when it was the Bird Flu that was supposed to wipe us out by hundreds of thousands, then the Swine Flu and everyone went crazy over that.

I think it's good to be aware and use precaution if you live in/around an area where the disease is affecting people.

As I said earlier though, with flu season right around the corner, it's really going to bog down the hospitals and health centers by people overreacting. But best to err on the side of caution.

what exactly was the breach of protocol?

the CDC suggested it might have been when she took off the suit, but i thought the hospital said that she had followed proper protocol (that's what they said yesterday, anyways).

CNN: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there was a breach in protocol in Texas, but officials haven't elaborated on what that means. Instead, they said the protocols laid out for American hospitals work.

From what I read CDC is saying "breach in protocol" because if you follow protocol it cannot be spread. In this case it was spread therefore there was a breach... In other words, they have no idea how the nurse got Ebola.

of course they wont want to give too many information- its a double edge sword...if they say the nurse fucked up, it will show that the hospitals are fucking up. So of course theyll leave it vague.

Most of the experts on teh subject are saying it was a breach in protocol of when she was removing her scrubs after being in the isolation area.

All in all how many others do you think will die from Ebola within the USA?

i don't know how we can even reasonably guess that.

everything that they do tell the public is either extremely vague, or extremely ridiculous (like the reason duncan came to america was to re-unite with an ex. riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight).

And those numbers are ridiculously hard to calculate because there are so many variables. I don't think anyone can calculate with any relative percentage of likelihood.

    actually, she did.

"breach of protocol" is the CDC doing CYA because THEIR recommended procedure for non-transmission care obviously didn't work.

looks like now they're going with the "she must have gotten it / spread it when she doffed her ppe" route. which, if that's the case, it's a LOT easier to catch than they've been saying AND the CDC protocol is fucked and needs to be reevaluated.

exactly. "breach of protocol" is bullshit. it's just conjecture on their part to keep people sedated on the fact that they have no fucking clue and Ebola is being spread.

not necessarily though. we don't know enough of what actually happened to determine that for sure. what if she had a cut on her hand or something like that?

well, SO FAR. we're batting 1.000 on Ebola cases discovered in America being transmitted to another person.

so, ramp up THOSE numbers and any statistician would say we're fucked.

    hopefully they figure out "protocol".

then gloves would be her PPE that protects her from that. unless she just went into the room and started working on duncan with no gloves on is the "breach of protocol" they're talking about, then it's a non-issue. which, the hospital is saying didn't happen.

no statistician would draw a conclusion based on such a small sample size.

and how are we batting 1.000 anyways? duncan was exposed to 50 people, at least. so far only one has gotten diagnosed...

i was thinking maybe she took her gloves off first, then took the suit off.

i'm not suggesting it did happen. just saying that could have been what happened.

one case turning into two (one at bat taking 50 pitches that results in a hit). that would be 1.000, no?

what? you can't just pick and choose what to include. that's ridiculous. what exactly defines an "out" then?

the fact is that only one person who was exposed to duncan, out of many others, were diagnosed. that's not batting 1,000.

could be. but that's a pretty retarded move. and the hospital says that she followed all the precautions. i would put that in the not proper precaution column, right?

but even then... did she rub vomit into her cut? or is it a lot easier to catch than they're saying?

the fact is that only one person who was exposed to duncan, out of many others, were diagnosed. that's not batting 1,000.
duncan being cremated without transferring it to another individual would be an out.

one patient is one at bat.

ok, then there are 48 patients who are quarantined and haven't been diagnosed. that's 48 outs right now.

    pretty simple logic.
