From NJ in the shadows of NYC. Grew up a NY Rangers fan, NY Giants fan, NJ Nets fan and I am a Rutgers guy now.
That said, I never liked baseball. As a kid I would have said Mets if you asked my favorite team, but really I literally never watched the sport at all unless I was at a game.
Then I went to Boston for the first time in 1999. I completely fell in love with that city. My parents (Yankees fans btw) took me to Fenway. I was hooked and have followed the Sox ever since.
I wore a Sox hat every day in high school and got ridiculed relentlessly. I lived through the ALCS in 1999 and 2003 as a Sox fan surrounded by Yankees fans. I wore that Sox hat after every devastating loss.
Finally, I got the chance to move to Boston and lived there for 4 almost 5 years. Amazingly, I got to see them win the World Series twice while living there
I still make trips up there just for Fenway about every year.
Anyway, this has all been explained for years on this site by me. If you scroll through the Sox threads dating all the way back to the start of this site, you will see me on there explaining how a guy from Jersey, with a family full of Yankees fans became a big Red Sox guy.
(BTW, my family are all NJ Devils fans too....
