2016 Race to the White House

Discuss the crazy political year in this thread.

RULES:
No personal attacks, zero tolerance policy and will result in a ban.
No death threats towards anyone.
Report posts that violate these rules.

Pretty simple. Discussions can get heated as people have different views and opinions. That is okay. Having different opinions and views is what makes us human. Just don't cross the line.

Enjoy.

I just pictured Trumps frowny looking face in the window of a helicopter talking off towards DC on a cloudy day

I don't think it takes much imagination to understand why people hate politicians.

I want to ask this question. From a non-biased point of view (not from the view of a Republican or a Democrat) and not without attacking Hillary, but just looking at the exact context of the statements made by Donald Trump, does anyone view this as treason?

    Link: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/28/us...on-emails.html

Treason Definition: (according to Cornell University Law School): “Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason.”

Comments by Donald Trump: "Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press."

Not sure I agree with stink's assertion of us being slaves, since we, as a culture can probably fairly easily change policy, we're all just too lazy and/or scared of change to do so. Which, could be slave like I guess, but I feel like a lot of people are very conscious of what's going on, we all just don't care if we have to do something about it

BUT I do think he's definitely right about there being in oligarchy. I was actually having a discussion with a guy the other day because he believes in the Illuminati pretty hardcore. To me, it's like, why do they need it? They have the money, they have the power, they have the connections, i.e. each other, rich powerful people, they don't need a secret society, they just do business that benefits them. And everyone just gets in line because we're all just 1 step away from being rich ourselves!

Sure, but mostly after I read further to find "Congress has passed laws creating related offenses that punish conduct that undermines the government or the national security"

I think, on the Republican side, the GOP will do everything they can to find and push a candidate, and it will happen earlier than we've seen in the past. I would be more sure of Trump being a one-termer than Hill.

From the Democrat side, I think we will see more opposition to her re-election if she wins, but I think she would have more of a chance of being re-elected than Trump, even if it is a small chance. But I imagine she won't easily get re-elected and there will be a significant opposition with more than a few candidates that will oppose her.

    That's an extremely mild take.

I would say it's not treason because I don't believe Russia is really an enemy. This isn't 1984.

That said, it's just one of the many dumb things this guy says that won't allow me to vote for him.

That said, we can't rely on the US government or Clinton to receive the emails, so what are you going to do to get the emails???

BUT I do think he's definitely right about there being in oligarchy. I was actually having a discussion with a guy the other day because he believes in the Illuminati pretty hardcore. To me, it's like, why do they need it? They have the money, they have the power, they have the connections, i.e. each other, rich powerful people, they don't need a secret society, they just do business that benefits them. And everyone just gets in line because we're all just 1 step away from being rich ourselves!
There's absolutely no comparison between the actual days of slavery and modern day working. I can totally understand the seemingly harmless mentality of "I'm a slave to my job" or "I get paid slave wages", it's all very much hyperbole when you line it up against actual slavery where men and women were beaten, whipped, forced into sex to breed stronger slaves, etc... Again, I'm not super sensitive, so off the cuff remarks don't bother me but anyone actually trying to compare the two is being ridiculous.

To the second part, I definitely think there are upper societies that people climb as they become more powerful and influential. It's not just the money that people get addicted to, it's the power as well.
