Not very far at all, a few hours. The wife has never been to Chicago so we're going to hang out there the day after the show so she can check it out. I just wanna go back for the food,

I didn't think it was very far, Thanks! Year I hear its a great city with great food. Hmm I wonder if I get July 3rd off work or July 6th since the 4th is over the weekend. That will determine if I go to Chicago before or after the shows...

I've made the drive from the NW suburbs to Alpine in about an hour before, and from downtown in about 90 minutes. It's not far at all if you hit traffic right.

You could always get a hotel in one of the more NW suburbs (i.e. Crystal Lake) and then commute to the city that way. Kind of a halfway house.

It's not even a few hours, more like 90 minutes, give or take depending on traffic and exactly where in the Chicago area you're coming from.

Last time Alpine was directly on the holiday (as opposed to just the nearest weekend like 2012 and 2013) was 2010 and it was sold out. I think being on the 4th actually helps attendance, because then more people plan trips around it, go to Lake Geneva for the weekend, etc.

Is the lake a good spot?

We were looking for something to do that morning before the show.

Do they usually do fireworks there or at the venue on the 4th?

Lake Geneva you mean? Yeah, it's an excellent town to stay in for DMB. It's kind of one of those quaint little resort type towns with a bunch of lakefront condo/cottage type joints, a little downtown area with shopping and restaurants, etc. It's only about a 15 minute drive to Alpine from there, and if you go the right route you sneak in right through the back way and avoid all the crazy traffic coming off the interstate.

Accommodations there will usually be slightly pricier because there aren't really very many straight up motels like a Super 8 or whatever, it's more condos/lakefront stuff (plus with the holiday weekend rates will be high), but it's a great area to spend the weekend, especially if you're bringing the wife along.

I booked the Super 8 in Delavan just so I know I have a hotel (it's refundable), but open to other stuff if something interesting catches my eye and isn't a bazillion dollars

well, got the "not taking reservations until April 15th" from the Alpine Resort. 7am sharp, so I have it in my calendar....

fallback is always the Grand Geneva....

You'll be good there if nothing else catches your eye. Delavan is also a short drive to the venue, and it's actually quite similar to Lake Geneva, though Lake Delavan is smaller. My wife's family has a place on the lake there as well as one of my good friends and we go up there a few times a year.

Since I know people are going to ask, here is the good seating chart that has the specific seat #'s.

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ne_seating.pdf

For any newbies, keep in mind that the entire 100 level (101-102-103) is now the Pit so the reserved seating starts with the 200 level.

Re: **Official Alpine Valley 2015 Thread**

Blessed with living 10 minutes away from Alpine until 3 years ago (now 20 minutes) I've taken the liberty of offering up some good links for food, lodging, and things to do in the area.

    Lodging - Link
Country Inn and Suites - East Troy - 5 minutes
    Rodeway Inn - Mukwonago - 15 minutes
    Baymont Inn - Waterford - 15 minutes

Baymont is probably the nicest (it was nice enough for me to use it as the hotel where guests stayed after my wedding reception). The Country Inn (now called East Troy Inn and Suites) is the closest hotel to the venue outside of the overpriced Alpine Lodge and is well kept. The Rodeway Inn isn't bad either. Not dirty but probably the least nice of the three hotels listed in the link above (and the cheapest).

Outside of these three, you will have hotels in Elkhorn, Delavan, and Lake Geneva (20-35 minutes away). Lake Geneva is the nicest area but you will pay for it (it's basically a weekend tourist attraction for people from Illinois).

    Food

Boneyard Pub & Grill - Mukwonago - Great wings and very affordable. 10 minutes from the venue. - Link to Menu

Gino's East - Lake Geneva - Chicago style deep dish pizza. 25 minutes from venue. - Link to Menu

Fork in the Road - Mukwonago - Another great sit down place. 15 minutes from venue. - Link to Menu

    Things to Do

Milwaukee has a lot to offer for being such an under the radar city. Stick to the 3rd Ward for a quick bite to eat and some cheap local brews and you'll do just fine. The Benelux, Milwaukee Market Place, Sobelmans, and Wicked Hop are all great choices for grill food.

The Milwaukee Art Museum - Phenomenal and situated right on the lakefront. A must see for any art enthusiasts. - Link

Brewery Tours - Both below are extremely good for craft breweries.

    Lakefront Brewery - Link

    Milwaukee Brewing Company - Link

Avoid the Miller Brewery Tour at all costs. It's lousy and beerless until the very end.

FWIW the east troy inn and suites is under the impression that DMB will be there

however, they got that from "a guy who said he had a good source"

probably one of us, so it's an echo chamber

anyway, they're on concert pricing, so there's no money to be saved really

still, availability will be an issue
