I read that they went in a very different direction for this record, can't wait to hear it.

I hope this is the exact opposite of Stairs.

That'd be just lovely, and would put them back on course for being even more awesome.

Ben is definitely taking the literal spin on lyrics lately. That first single title is intriguing/cringeworthy/etc, "You Are a Tourist."

Walla told Lowe that legendary My Bloody Valentine producer Alan Moulder is mixing the record and that the band is experimenting with synths and reverb rather than relying as heavily on their usual strummy guitars. Check out the video of the interview below.
Awesome news, Alan Moulder just recently finished up working on the 5.1 mix of Nine Inch Nails' "The Fragile" which he originally did the stereo mixing on...he's one of my faves and I'm a lot more excited about this album reading this.

    Sorry, but that's wrong.
Go listen to Something About Airplanes, then listen to Narrow Stairs.
I understand that with age, a musician's writing style will change, but those are two completely different lyrical set ups.

Stairs is extremely straight forward, and not as imaginative, whereas Planes showed a writer that didn't really believe in limits or conventional ideas to compare life's events to.

CODES AND KEYS cover art - http://zeitgeistmanagement.com/death...keys-cover.jpg

    I dig the new cover.

    Track Listing
    01. Home Is A Fire
    02. Codes And Keys
    03. Some Boys
    04. Doors Unlocked And Open
    05. You Are A Tourist
    06. Unobstructed Views
    07. Monday Morning
    08. Portable Television
    09. Underneath The Sycamore
    10. St. Peter's Cathedral
    11. Stay Young, Go Dancing

No word on formats, would be awesome to see Death Cab to a Blu-ray Audio version, but more likely I'll be getting the vinyl.

To me it's pretty much the same, just without that stupid vocal effect they used to put on all of the songs.

I'll take the trans, plans, and stairs lyrics over airplanes, facts/yes, and songs with chords any day. Plus I don't know how "you are a tourist" is cringewortht when we're talking about the band with songs like:

    I was a kaleidoscope
    Someday you will be loved
Your heart is an empty room
I will follow you into the dark

It's just death cab. I'm couldnt be more excited for this record.

Coolio. I’ll pass on this. I find with albums that I know I’m going to buy, I try to not listen to anything before I get it.

Got shut out of getting tickets for their new tour. Disappointing.

Not feeling the single. Hopefully the album changes my views, and the song will sound better in an album based context.

Pre-order looks like is has some cool stuff, but I'd trade it all for a high rez 5.1 Blu-ray of the new album.

Almost nobody would need or want a “blu ray” of an album. Not worth manufacturing.

I wish the live DVD was a CD instead. I have zippy interest in a live DVD, but would love a live album from them.

Actually it only takes around 200 copies these days to make something "worth manufacturing" compared to 20,000 copies back in 2006. Vinyl is worth manufacturing and even the biggest names are only moving 10,000 copies in a year (see Pearl Jam, DMB, Radiohead, etc.).

Thankfully not everyone shares the same narrow-minded viewpoint as you and as a result the many people that enjoy high resolution surround sound have the following wonderfully mastered albums to choose from on Blu-ray Audio with more in the pipeline.

    Rush - Moving Pictures
    NIN - The Fragile
    NIN - Ghosts I~IV
    Tom Petty - Anthology
Tom Petty - Damn The Torpedoes
    Neil Young - Le Noise
Neil Young - Archives Volume 1
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - The Social Network

That in addition to the 6,000+ SACD and @ 2,000 DVD-Audio titles.

Death Cab did a Super Audio CD release of Transatlanticism, it is more palatable than the CD on the ears. The live DVD if it includes a PCM stereo track will likely be of higher fidelity than a CD would anyway, 24/48 in most cases. I'm sure you'll be able to find an audio rip of the DVD and dither it to 16-bit for a CD burn anyway.
