Re: No 2017 Tour

Too bad about 2017. That would have been my 20 year anniversary of first seeing them and we wanted to hit up The Gorge that year (for what would likely be my 41st show at some point).

Might have to do it this year (or hope for a Caravan in 2017).

I wouldn't be surprised if it's more that they don't know if they'll be back, so they're not making anything official at this point. The way it was announced was very strange.

I've seen the band many more times than 20 and I think it's about time they took legitimate time off. They're in a very mediocre place right now.

I'm glad the band is taking 2017 off from touring. I actually hope they don't do the Caravan and don't do any shows at all; sets are stale, the new material stinks, and it just all seems tired at this point. Maybe a (real) year off will help them refresh.

Also, I hope that this year off means that the new album is dead. The songs we heard in 2015 were trash, and I'd hate to see a new album wasted on those tunes.

I agree with all of this. They need to take a year off and come back in 2018 with a tour that is not as long. Maybe half of what this year is. They need to get back into loving each show they put on. The past few years has seemed like they are just going through the motions because they have to.

So I was going to take 2016 off because we are buying a house but now the news of no tour next year makes me think I should be going to Alpine still...

The question: should I go to Alpine?

The answer is always yes. Always.

C Ville as the final show of the tour would make me think alot harder that this could be it, but its not, so it isnt.

There will be shows in 2017. Just watch...

Doesn't Dave have one more solo project on his contract? Maybe he's going to take some time focusing on that record like Some Devil..

Assumptions all over the place in here. I agree with nick that something feels off. I think we will see a fall tour. Personally I think this may be the end of the standard summer tour for them. Doubt we'll see any full band shows at all in 2017. Maybe some D&T.

To me it feels like things are really up in the air with their future.

It really wouldnt suprise me if Boyd up and quit between now and 2018. Of any of the members, he definetly has seemed the least "into-it" for the last several years.

Anybody thought maybe the extreme delay in 2016 dates being announced could have meant they were contemplating calling it off this year, and instead for whatever reason they were roped into it and are taking off 2017 instead?

The year off kind of put a little more vailidty to the possible injury rumor IMO. Its was never really fully debunked.

Thank god they are taking a break. New music blows. Boyd needs a music lesson. Sets were terrible and repetitive last year. If I hear shake me like a god damn fucking monkey in an encore one more time...

Sounds like you need a break from them.

How many shows are you hitting this year?

The extreme delay of 6 days (two of those being weekend days) from when we THOUGHT they were supposed to be released?

Yes, they should also shorten the tour. They should only be doing 30 shows max each summer. Unless they want to delve deeper into their catalogue, 30 shows is more than enough.

    No 2017 Tour

I think a lot of people are overthinking this. There will be shows in 2017 - whether they're Caravan-style shows, a Dave & Tim tour, random one-offs, or something like Dave & Friends - there's no way they take an entire year off without any shows. Touring is what they do. They can't stay away from the stage - look at what they did in 2011. Plus, all the band members still seem to be into it and having fun. This band is not done.

This year will probably be very similar to 2010.

25 straight years has to take its toll.

For as much flack as I give the band, they need and deserve a whole year off. You should expect just that.

There will be some shows in 2017. They enjoy performing too much to take an entire year away.

You should do Gorge this year, because why not. But, if the full band does play at all in 2017, I imagine Gorge will be one of their top priorities, especially for Labor Day, as it'll draw a bigger crowd if there are less shows. Fingers crossed!

Honestly the way i see it as the break will be the deciding factor if they want to come back and tour full time with a new album or just come back in a much smaller scale and be where they hit maybe 20 shows a summer instead of 45-55 shows a year.

you wonder how many announcements are delayed because of things like contracts taking a few days longer to sign and get finalized.

again this is the correct answer. i would say they probably play one festival weekend type event labor day weekend for the gorge and then dave and tim go on a tour of some sorts whenever.

So, some say there will be shows in 2017. You think they'll play the Gorge during Labor Day weekend?

I think it's great that the band is taking a year off. I hope it's a full year too. They've being touring their asses off and they deserve it. I think also it'll be a nice break for the fans as well. The majority won't be such cynical bitches and actually appreciate what this band does.
