Re: Problems with the DualDisc? Post here (MusicTodayC)

Ready for this, I have a new Latitude D410 with the 8X DVDRW drive, DVD side plays fine but the CD side doesn't work, ok...so I tried the Dual Disc both sides in my Sony DVD player from 1997, this was Sony's grand DVD player back in the day, first one w/ Dolby and DTS decoders built in, and the Dual disc plays fine. HOW is this possible??? This DVD player doesn't even play CD-R's!!

was this RCA/BMG's idea of a good way to boost record sales?

    It's not a cd-r. It's a quasi-cd that doesn't comply to standards at all.

And it probably was to sell more copies.

This is the f'n stupidest thing ever. seriously- who the hell produces a cd that just DOSENT WORK in people's equiptment? who makes a cd, then then puts a sticker on the package that says "this cd dosent meet standards, so it might not work"?
My friends cant play it on their computers, but it will work in thier cd players. I can play it on my computer, but i cant listen to it on my cd player.

Am i the only one that thinks this is really really wrong?

this thread is a good idea, and i hope it gets sent to music today, but i also dont think that will be enough. Call, people. Call Music Today, Email them, call them, dont let up. demand to know 1) Why they produced a cd in such a worthless format, and 2) what they plan on doing about it.

I'm calling monday when i get back to my house- and if im not satisfied with the answers i get, i'm going to call and email every other day after that.

Everyone who is geting screwed with this shiity cd (the format, not the music) not working NEEDS to call them, and let them know what's up.
    Thank you for listening...

You act like musictoday invented dualdisc. While complaining may prevent dmb from using dualdisc in the future, the record industry is to blame for its creation.

if there's a better company to alert about the worthlessness of this format, please let me know (im not mean, i seriously want to know).
I just hate the feeling of being ripped off, and that really what it feels like when you buy a cd that dosent play. If someone sold me a dishwasher that diddnt clean a dman thing I put in it, i would want to call them, and request that they take it back and give me my money back, along with giving me an answer to 'who's shitty idea was this, anyways'. that's all.

I've just seen musictady being thrown around in every thread involving a problem with the new cd not working, so i assumed they were the producers/most in charge. but if there's a better place to go, let me know.

thanks, and thanks for this thread- when you're getting screwed, its nice to know that others are getting screwed with you

When this was announced for the album I warned about the compatability problems, and here we are with them. I'm not saying you shouldn't complaint to musictoday, because by doing so they may avoid the format in the future.

Fighting dualdisc will take a lot more than musictoday since there are a good number of titles currently available:

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/se...672180-6016738

My advice? Don't buy it if you can help it. Warn others not to as well.

    alright, thanks.
it's weird to me though, that if people are having all these problems...that it hasent gotten back to anyone in charge and made them think 'whoa, this was a terrible idea'...oh well, i guess it will just take a whole bunch of people to not buy dual disc for them to care....which probably wont happen as long as theres cool bonus video/audio that theres a 'chance' could work for you...
    oh well, thanks again

I never suggested it was a CD-R, all I meant was, how could my POS DVD player that doesn't play CD-R's even come close to recognizing this "quasi-CD that doesn't comply" when my DVDRW drive which is 2 months old does not play the disc!

Hmmm..interesting sales strategy! I bet they sell over 750,000 the first week, anyone care to venture a guess on totals?

It's because it is not a standard format. Therefore, results will vary greatly. It could play on an ancient basic cd desk but not on your brand new dvd player.

What's amazing is that DD is actually selling rather well.

It's also more expensive to produce than a cd+dvd combo and the dvd side can only be single layer from what I've read.

I posted in the beginning that my dual disc wouldn't play in my car (stock) radio... it does now. It's picky and won't play when I have been playing it, turn the car off, then turn it back on - the cd is ejected. None of my other discs are like that. I wait about a minute and put the disc back in, and it works.
It is frustrating that the dual disc isn't working 100% of the time. Oh well, such is life I guess.

So anyone whos isn't working, try removing it and putting it in again - just a thought.

P.S. My DVD side had a scratch too!

i tried the CD in my dad's computer. it played only about 20 seconds of a song before stopping.
in my old computer (now my sister's & mom's), it played fine! so i burned it, but it doesn't play on my computer. so i guess i have a copy to keep in the car now. so i extracted the files and sent them to my computer. i can listen to it that way w/ windows media player. i can't burn it though because it gives me errors & freezes up.
oh well, at least i'm able to listen to it on my computer though, so i'm somewhat happy.

I was happy to find that my computer read and was able to rip Stand Up right when I got it, as well as play the DVD (although only correctly with one of my many dvd programs). Now I just gotta hope my Jeep stereo plays the cd!

    Me:
I just wanted to comment that I am very disappointed in the new Stand Up
Dual Disc release not being 24bit audio as was advertised. This was the
reason I purchased the Dual Disc option.

    MusicToday:
    Hello,

The enhanced sound is available on the DVD side of the DualDisc.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

    Me:
    As quoted on your website:
"*Stand Up* is DMB’s 6th studio release on RCA Records. The *Stand Up *dual-disc is a DVD which includes a short feature of the making of *Stand Up *plus the album in 24-bit stereo; the audio side contains the full-length album.

*dual discs contain a DVD, which includes a short feature of the making of the album plus the album in 24-bit stereo; the Audio side contains the full-length album. To learn more about dual discs, please click here."

I am fully aware of what a Dual Disc is and where the *enhanced* audio is contained. I have been a fan of *24 bit* music for over three years now and am very familiar with the SACD and DVD-A formats that contain *24 bit* audio. The Dual Disc DVD side of Stand Up does not contain *24 bit* audio as advertised in the quote from your website ( Stand Up Link ). The *enhanced *audio of on the DVD side of the disc is not *24 bit* as advertised, thus my disappointment.

    MusicToday:
    Hello,

Thank you for choosing Musictoday. Please feel free to return the CD for a refund.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

My computer is an eMachines Athlon 3200+ XP, WinXpSP2, DVD-ROM, DVD+/-RW. The dual disc wasn't recognized in my DVD-ROM drive (JLMS XJ-HD166S), but worked absolutely fine in my DVD+/-RW drive (NEC DVD-RW ND-1300A).

I had the exact same occurance with Rob Thomas' "Something to Be" dual disc album in addition to the dual disc "Stand Up".

The cd audio side does NOT work on the my computer drives:

Lite-On DVD SOHD-167T (though this drive plays the DVD side)
    Plextor CD-R PX-W1210A

Oddly enough, it DOES play on an older laptop drive:

    LG CD-ROM CRN-82458

    --
A different issue hopefully you can share with Music Today is that in each of the 3 LiveTrax cds I just received, at least one disc became detached during shipping; one is scratched to the point that I'm asking for replacement. Not sure if this is a packaging or shipping issue, but I thought they should know, particularly if this is a common problem.

    Peace, Rob

Im in Canada and have yet to recieve my order. When it arrives I will not be opening my dual disc, and will be putting it up on ebay and going to buy a regular copy. It just seems that people are having WAY WAY WAY to many problems with it and I have seen plenty of video of DMB in my day. If anyone is interested, I'll post the ebay link here whenevr I get the disc. The bidding will start @ $0.01 with no reserve. Hopefully someone out there wants it.

The Dual disc works great on all of my cd players/computers....I think it is a great format and i feel and know record companies are going to push more dual discs out for the market, especially since the ware between Dvd Audio and SACD is never ending....
I mean the record company would be foolish not to embrace it more...They get copy-protection and it costs less it make dual discs than reg cd's....All us the comsumers should be thrilled too, you get a regular cd side, and then a dvd side with videos or high quality sound..The DEad's American Beauty DD is awesome too, with a 24 bit 192khz Stereo resolution on the DVD side, you can't get anything better than that..

The CD side of my Dual-Disc copy isnt working, it's skipping A LOT. The only track that doesnt skip is American Baby. It skips on everything too, not just my computer, but I also cant get it onto my MP3 player (Creative Nomad 20 GB). My comp. is a Compaq Presario.

How do you figure that it has 24 bit, 192 khz resolution on the DVD side?

My computer (HP customized desktop) wouldn't even read the CD side. Like it didn't even think I had a CD in. What i ended up having to do was putting in the DVD side then ripping the DVD audio and converting that to MP3...AKA PAIN

I have a new dell and it wouldn't read the cd side at all. I had to hold down the shift key when I re-inserted it, and then the computer read it and I was able to rip it. Have others tried this and failed?

Since I own the Deads's American Beauty Dualdisc, and thats what it has, either 24 bit 96khz 5.1 mix or 24 bit 192 khz stereo mix on the dvd side of it....Its the same as the DVD Audio version of GD's American Beauty....
