framing DMB posters

i was just browsing the forums, and i see some of you guys got really nice framing setups going on. ive never framed anything before, and i dont want to end up spending an arm and a leg, since i got a few posters to frame

im thinking of getting this for a frame ($20)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Picture-Fram...ht_5306wt_1278

with a (probably cream) "mat" which is like another $8.

do i need anything else? an "acrylic" is another $10.. they come in tons of different varieties and thicknesses but i have no idea if theyre necessary or what they function for (and if i did get one, what thickness id need).

im just a college student, so its not like im a master decorator - any nicely framed dmb poster would be perfect for my purposes. and lastly, once i have all these materials, do they all come together easily, or do i need some sort of fancy glue or anything like that? like i said i have absolutely no idea what im doing, so any help is greatly appreciated!!!

also, i just noticed that the thickness of the frame and everything is stressed. i imagine this is a big deal if im framing like records or something, but do i need to worry about this for a thin poster? or do i need to get some sort of filler to take up all the extra space?

All of mine I just get the basic frames from Target with the exception being the Bristow poster that I got customed framed. Here is video of some of my collection.

    This is what I did.

    1. Go to http://expressobeans.com/wiki/index.php/DIY_Framing and read up on it.

    2. Go to http://www.americanframe.com/ they're the cheapest and best framing site on the net.

also www.daveposters.com/forum has a lot of information

cant go wrong with 20 bux.. is that all i need- just pop the poster in and im good to go? also, would you consider getting a bigger size frame to put like a mat border (not sure if thats the proper jargon)

Yep, just pop it in and go! (that's what she said)

I just go with size for simplicity sake and they look great. I've got 8-9 up in my apartment

I just get the frames at Target. They fit perfectly, except for the 3 Day Caravan poster from Chicago, I just put black paper behind it.

i've had all of my decemberists posters custom framed at Michael's. They've done a great job for me. One started to wave under the glass, but it may have resulted from me accidentally storing the print upside down. as a result, i'm going to get all of them relooked at by a certified framing shop here in milwaukee.

no idea, but i wouldn't leave it in there too long. take a look here http://www.americanframe.com/Departm...cessories.aspx
they have great prices, just don't buy the one where you have to mount the poster to the backing.

Matting makes all the difference IMO. A good color scheme to go with the colors in the poster really makes it jump.

You can go the true way of trimming the mattig and putting the poster behind it OR center the poster atop it if you're intimidated by cutting an inside border out of the mat backing.

Hey all! Haven't posted in over 5 years so I guess now is a better time than ever! I am completely lost on this framing thing and am trying to do this in the cheapest way possible. By that I mean assembling it myself.

I have 3 that I would like to get a mats for but am lost as to all the things that I need to frame them. I went to Michael's but they don't have any matting colors that work so could I just order them online and get the frames a Michael's still? Besides the acid-free matting what else would I need? This sounds dumb but how do we "mount" the actual poster to the matting?

Confused on so many levels today and any help would be greatly appreciated!
Oh and yes, I tried to read the expressobeans DIY framing but doesn't make a ton of sense to me ...

This custom frame was about $300, but to get the signed poster, drumstick, and setlist all together was completely worth it.

yea you have to be careful with those frames. over time if they are not the right kind of frame, the poster can turn yellow. custom framing is the way to go if you want your poster to stay perfect. plus the glass is museum clear so it looks real nice. target frames are good short term, but you should always have it in a custom frame within a certain amount of time. a.c. moore does custom and is always having sales. right now around me custom framing is 55% off. for the cheapest frame with museum glass its $100. but it will never fade or turn yellow. plus the glass is dipped more to be u.v. protected. def worth it.

Used Michaels a couple times. A tip though is to wait until custom framing is at least 60% off, the check online for an additional coupon. Got an additional 10% off my last framing.

i get all my prints framed at michaels and they always turn out great. they tend to run between 140-180 depending on the matting and the size of the print itself. also, the frame can be more costly depending on which you buy.. look for the discounts (60%) off custom framing... always works.
