I think if Stefan really wanted to know what Dave is up to, which I doubt he does, he'd have to find it out just like a fan. I get the impression these guys rarely do anything together or talk until its time to tour or until Dave says, "hey bozos, I wrote some more junk and I want to make an album out of it, so come to the studio."

I get that vibe too but it seems like they're pretty friendly about it. Almost like actual work associates.

That is kind of interesting. I don't think it's that crazy to think they might head back into the studio to finish off things now that Dave and Tim are done touring. I know Tim has a tour and I've seen Rashawn guesting with a bunch of people but still.

Yeah forgot about Boyd. But they don't all have to be present in studio at the same time to track or finish things, right? I'm not super familiar with that process so I don't know

I took it to mean the music sells itself, regarding the DMB Live 25, but I could be way off.

My guess is if anything it will be after Farm Aid. Take the rest of the summer off... but even then I think Dave is done for the year besides maybe benefits, etc.

dmb doesn't seem like the type of Band to piece together a studio album from different parts of the world. They've always been in the studio together, working as a band. I highly doubt that's going to change now. At least... I hope it doesn't.

I seem to remember Jeff posting on FB that he was going into the studio to lay down some of his parts, at a time when we new Dave was somewhere else.

They may create the songs together in the studio, but they don't have to all be there all the time for the tedious retakes of parts they're not even playing on.

So they are at that point of the recording process? I know they've been cryptically talking about being in and out of the studio for... what?... 2 years now?... We think new songs have been written and a good portion of them have been recorded?
Honestly, it seems like this album is becoming dmb's Chinese Democracy.

It could be as simple as sharing ideas. Dave sends a file with a riff and the guys comment. Stefan records a bass line and sends it back. So on and so forth. I don't think they are laying down final cuts for an album completely on their own. If imagine they still get together to do that in person when there is something to be done.

Fair enough. Nice explanation. I hadn't thought of it like that, and it makes perfect sense.
I was picturing a Pantera situation. Their final album's music was recorded in Texas and the vocals in New Orleans. They didn't even see each other until they went on tour in support.

While my scenario is more likely, anything is possible. I think they are truly taking 2017 off from any official dmb related work. I doubt they are recording anything officially right now. The only thing they do this year in an official capacity is decide about touring next year and maybe some talks about how they want the tour to look. Then they just let management book it and meet up a couple weeks before the tour to rehearse.

That's pretty much how I figured this year was going to go. I never, for a moment, thought that they were going to be working on a new album this year.

I would hope that isn't the case. I would like to think that they think of each other as best friend's and family and that they stay in touch with one another. That may just be part of my dreaming tree though.

It seems like they are a long way from the days when Dave and Stefan shared a cabin in the woods writing music that would later become most of BTCS. It makes sense, they are 20 years older with kids and more responsibilities outside of music.

Oh, no, I highly doubt that What Album? is that far along. I kinda jumped into the middle of the conversation and was speaking generally. The anecdote about Jeff was from years ago, maybe during AFTW.

Gotcha. But still, I do remember over the last couple of years more than one band member has spoken about going into a studio in Seattle. Stone Gossard's studio, I believe. And I'm pretty sure Stefan was one of them. And Dave, of course.

Based on everything that's been shared by either Dave, various site members, etc., I think their creative process is too fragile to write that way. It does make sharing ideas a little more difficult, because text and emails etc. tend to lose their intention and tone, and we all know how that goes.
