My damn name is Elizabeth and that's what I've always referred to myself as, you shouldn't have been confused!
Also, my name tag at work says Elizabeth yet customers come up and say "How's it going Liz/Lizzie/Beth?" etc...

In a similar note, most people call me Mandy.
I don't find this irritating, but more mind-boggling, but I run into confused people all the time that are expecting an "Amanda" but I answer as Mandy or expecting "Mandy" but get an Amanda - like I wasn't aware the people that don't realize Mandy is a nickname for Amanda.
For example, when I send formal letters at work, I use Amanda M Last name.
But, I answer my work phone with "Hi, this is Mandy." So many times, the response will be "Can I speak with Amanda" or "Is this Amanda," etc.
Is it really that hard to figure out?
Years ago, at my first job out of college, I had my Warehouse tickets shipped to work (due to signature required) and the receptionist almost rejected them b/c they came to "Mandy Last Name" (now that I think about it, apparently at that job I went by Amanda).
