Re: What's Your Favorite Dog Breed?

    Dog Lovers Unite!!! Great thread.

I currently have a big, fat white dog named Gwyn. She is a lab/shepard mix and is the biggest love. My wife and I rescued her from a local shelter 4.5 years ago.

We also had a little terrier mix named Sandy up until last summer. She developed seizures and we had to put her down. RIP Sandy-girl.

As for actual breeds of dogs, I love German/American Shepards. Had one growing up and still miss that dog to this very day. I miss my Sunshine.

Side note for eveyone looking to get a dog, please look into rescuing a dog from a shelter or animal rescue. There are thousands of dogs looking for a good home. All they need is the right environment, and they could become the best pet in the world. The last two dogs that I have had are from the shelter. They are the best dogs.

Here are a couple pictures of my 'girls'.

The same thing happened to my cousin but the offending breed was a cocker spaniel. How come no one ever talks about how vicious they are? Pound for pound they have one of the worst bites you can receive. Apparently it's not a good breed for the salacious headlines or top news stories however because you never hear about "killer" cocker spaniels. Rotties and pit bulls take the heat no matter what the percentages are. That pisses me off.

Cocker Spaniels are also notoriously stupid. They make my cat look like MacGuyver and he's dumb as a doorknob, trust me.

Ben, your doggies are beautiful! They look very healthy and happy.

Any dog breed with 'cock' in it's name is bad.

When I was younger, we had a cocker spaniel. Cool dog, but very stand-offish. Never really warmed up to it. She lived to be like 17 or something.

Thanks for the kind words Janet. Gwyn is a great dog. She is trained off-leash and she tolerates my 2 year old son. Just for that fact alone, she has has her ticket punched to the Great Dog Park in the Sky.

Sandy was a great girl. My wife misses her terribly. She always wanted a scruffy mutt, and Sandy fit that desciption to a 'T'. We only had her for a few years, but they were fun while they lasted.

Re: What's Your Favorite Dog Breed?

    My list of dog breeds:
    Bassett Hound
    Bulldog
    Bull Terrier
    Bernese Mountain
    Golden Retriever
    Gordon Setter
    Great Dane
    Great Pyrenees
    Newfoundland
    Pembroke Welsh Corgi

    Also...

Dog breeds I will never own:
    Airedale
    Boston Terrier
    Boxer
    Chow-chow
    Dachshund
    Doberman
    Keeshond
    Mini-Pinscher
    Papillon
    Pomeranian
    Poodle
    Pug
    Rottweiler
    Scottish Terrier
    Shar-pei
    Siberian Husky
    West Highland White Terrier
    Whippet
    Yorkshire Terrier

At this point, I'd say my favorite dog breed is the Basset Hound, with the Bernese Mountain a very close second. Oh, and I own two labs, a black and a chocolate. They're cool, but I also like variety....

Re: What's Your Favorite Dog Breed?

I just thought of another breed that I love, Greyhounds. There used to be a rescue shelter not far from my work. Before my shift would start, I would go over and volunteer to walk them. Sweet dogs.

My ulimate dog fantasy would be to own a Yellow Lab and Black Lab. I want to name them Bass and Guiness. My other is to have a bulldog and name him Boris. Even though it goes against what I believe, I wouldn't 'fix' him. Maybe.

The queen does have Corgis. I watched a documentary about it once. Corgis are also supposed to be enchanted according to Irish folklore, they pull the fairies carriages.

Blue Heeler (Australian cattle dog). Our boy Django is an incredibly intelligent, loyal and protective friend, with a very up-beat and contagious personality. His only downside (if you can even call it that) is that he is hyperactive and feels compelled to herd the cats around the house, which my wife and I find very amusing.

About four years ago I had a chance to rescue scooby from his owners (we bought their house and they left him there for us). They were miserable, had him caged at only three months old, untrained, ect...anyway, we got him and he has been a great dog.

I am allergic but not so much to him. He is a great camping dog, likes to hike...he's up for anything.

I know most Shih Tzu's are dressed all girly but not Scooby. He has tons of personality, one blue eye, one brown, and thinks he's the biggest dog on the block.

Here are two shots, one is an action shot from this winter while sledding.

I am allergic but not so much to him. He is a great camping dog, likes to hike...he's up for anything.

I know most Shih Tzu's are dressed all girly but not Scooby. He has tons of personality, one blue eye, one brown, and thinks he's the biggest dog on the block.

Here are two shots, one is an action shot from this winter while sledding.

good for you...i love resuce stories and i think the owners who screwed with these dogs should be put to death....and just for the record my shih tzus are not dressed all girklie either....good stroy though....felt good to read

Seriously, that is SUCH a good looking dog! I can't get over how jealous I am of you.

I've seen the name Django before, but I've never been able to figure out why it's a popular name... What are the origins of it, do you know?

My chocolate lab is named Zoey... but when we rescued a black lab last year, her name was also Zoey. We renamed her "Chloe" in order to save ourselves some frustration, but, in all honesty, I think it's only caused more trouble trying to keep Zoey and Chloe right.

    Anyway, great pictures, everyone!
