Both trophies & achievements are ultimately pointless & meaningless. Play the game for the game, not some artificial length mechanism.

Achievements bring great replayability to a game. I spend more time on games on the 360 than I ever did on the ps3. I've also replayed games I originally played on the ps3 on the 360. If you don't like it, fine, but don't try to act like it's not a pretty huge part of gaming. Why do you think Sony introduced trophies in the first place? Because achievements were a huge reason people picked 360 titles over the ps3.

That's true sometimes, but it doesn't change the fact that they're a meaningless gimmick. Further, people saying one form (achievements/trophies) is better than the other is completely asinine - they're identical in terms of the goals set to be attained.

Youre calling it a meaningless gimmick, but to majority of gamers, theyre not.

Amen. Before I bought GTA IV, I only played San Andreas out of the four. I'm right there with you in saying that the fourth installment was technically the best. I loved the story as well, it was engrossing and riveting. But the missions themselves were borderline repetitive. By close to the end, I was only doing them to keep up with the storyline itself.

I actually just picked up IV w/ Liberty City Episodes for like 29 at gamestop. Its a pretty good game but its amazing how much better the controlling is in Red Dead Redemption. I know GTA is older but I'm hoping for this next game they pretty much mimic the Read Dead controlling as far as the cover system, character control, and shooting goes.

also is IV open ended??? Can I play through the story mode then tie up loose ends after?

It took me forever to do that snow storm mission. The one where you have to get the coke in the old school for that chick. I got so frustrated. I had no idea there was a getaway boat sitting down by the river for you.

It might be time I give it a try again.

Going off topic a bit, but they're going to ruin the Max Payne franchise with #3. It's been pushed back several times and still has no release date, but it doesn't look to have a Max Payne feel at all to it.

I still haven't beat Red Dead

Will get this a little later. LA Noire looks awesome as well. Is it made by the same people?

I don't think Rockstar is making LA Noire but they have a hand in it somehow. I know there will be no multiplayer free roam in it. It's going to be a lot different than REd Dead/GTA.

I beat Red Dead but got bored a third of the way through Undead. I play Multiplayer a lot though. GTA IV has cut into my Red Dead playing.

I never beat Red Dead. I got back to his ranch or whatever, and then it started taking FOREVER waiting for missions. Stopped playing then.

Same, I thought I had finished the game, only to find I have to shoot birds that are near my silo. I never got around to finishing the rest

I think the original one was set in London, wasn't it? That'd be cool if they went back to that.

I'm pretty sure it was. London would be a great setting... lots of cool sights, multicultural, ridiculous British gangsters.

Now, with it officially being called GTA V, I have to ask: is this going to be the first numbered GTA not in Liberty City? Or does this mean we're getting Liberty City two games in a row?

    I don't understand that.

But I thought I read that it's taking place in an L.A. type city. I don't remember what they called it.

I always think I should try these games, but I never do. GTA2 was fun though.

All of the games that are just Grand Theft Auto (numerals), being I, II, III, and IV, were all set in Liberty City. If it wasn't set in Liberty City, it had a named secondary title, being

    Vice City
    San Andreas
    Vice City Stories
    London, 1969
    etc.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V- 2012

i have GTA IV and never finished it. I picked up Fallout 3 and never went back. Maybe i should go back to it and re-visit it.

Although i enjoyed the setting of Vice City better, San Andreas is my favorite. loved all the little things you could do: eat, lift weights, swim, skydive, up your stats, do the flying minigame, ect. ect.

The gang type stuff for San Andreas was cool too.
