While reading through the new 2015 payment guidelines I'm wondering if this note about video taping was always part of the rules.

Audio recording is generally permitted from any seat location in all venues as long as recording equipment does not interfere with clear access for other concertgoers to leave their seats and access fire aisles. Video recording is not permitted

if anyone has a gopro, i'd definitely let them clamp to my mic stand. you can monitor it from you iphone via bluetooth, right? make sure it's got the right angle and all that...

I know I can on mine (Hero 4 Silver). But I'd need a bigger battery. Probably would need to get a 64gb memory card to. Hopefully the 64gb would get me through the whole show.

64gb would cover the show in 1080
That would give you over 5hrs

May not want to mix audio and video recording. Just thinking how that could negatively impact the future of tapers.

what, you think I haven't been thinking of this? Just got one last year, got the blackout housing for xmas, 4 extra batters with external charger. Only thing is the wi-fi to be able to preview on your phone KILLS the battery, and the phone's battery.

true. i was thinking about it as in the context of the past few years where they haven't given a crap about cameras at all.

but with the new camera policy, probably a bad idea.

can't you use it to get situated then just disable it for the remainder?

I forget if I can turn it off remotely, I may have to set it, lower the whole rig as then turn it off on the cam but yeah. I could.

You may be on to something there....a telescope like. Maybe it would help for those who complain about the stand blocking their view. lol

I chatted someone up at D&T last weekend (not someone I've met before or could validate) who claimed to know him in some roundabout way, so big ol grain of salt here.

But anyway he said he hears he's fine, wasn't asked to take down videos but chose to personally, and will bring them back soon enough.

a few years ago i was looking for a camera to take to shows to record. i came across some pen-cameras, which are basically the size of a sharpie with the camera lens at one of the ends. i thought it would be perfect to stick up on a mic stand because it would look like a mic. the only problem with those cameras was they all had internal fixed batteries that only lasted like an hour. would have been perfect if the batteries could be switched out. maybe they developed over the last few years.

Has anyone had much luck with the GoPro's? The lens doesn't seem too friendly for night or concerts. I took mine to Berkeley last year, and got it as close as the lower steps of the back of pit on N3, but the videos were pretty bad. It has a bit of a fish eye effect, and the lights at night made the video a bit grainy. I think you'd have to be real close for a GoPro to work well. Or maybe mounting it on the mic stands, keeping it that still really would help...?

amazing what CCP has done for this community, and all the tapers also. Just thinking back to the early 2000's and how primitive it was getting sound/video. amazing the quality on you tube these days.

what were your options back then, anyway? Did digital cameras have a video option, or were you relegated to using an honest-to-goodness camcorder?

I dunno about everyone but a lot of peopl euse camcorders. When you look at his notes for some of the old conversions, it says mini-dv and that's the old small digital tapes I used in college. A hell of a lot easier thiese days with 1080p and good zooms on cameras.
