Everyday is Underrated?

I'm just curious people's thoughts on Everyday as a whole. Sure it's no big 3, but I think it gets more flack than it should. There are some real stinkers but there are some nice live songs and Dreams of Our Fathers is a good song imo. Thoughts?

It's not any of those options. It's an ok album and nothing more.

I always thought if they came out with the lillywhite sessions first and then something like everyday afterwards peoples opinions would be different in regards to everyday...i think so right and if I had it all are great songs...but who knows, I definitely think everday is better than stand up

None of these options. I think it's rated pretty accurately.

I like Everyday a lot. Angel is the worst song on the record and possibly their worst song of all time, but I still like Everyday a lot. You could say I love Everyday

Yeah I really don't see the hate for it... Space Between, What You Are, Fool to Think, So Right, Everyday...all songs I listen to routinely. The bridge of DOOF is gold and I really have been digging the end of Mother Father recently too. However, I know I'm in the minority- I've never seen the love for TLWS. It just feels so half-finished to me. I love how Busted Stuff turned out. Don't hate me for my opinion!

I think many have lightened up on Everyday. It is an average album with some really good songs and some bad songs.

    Re: Everyday is Underrated?

Here's the thing about everyday, everyone was expecting The Lillywhite Sessions, since during the 2000 summer tour the band was road testing a lot of new music. It's been a while, but the way I remember it was the band announced that it was letting Steve Lillywhite go, and was bringing in a new producer, Glen Ballard, to help finish the new album, and maybe write "a few" new tunes.

Then we got the announcement of Everyday, and the single debut of I Did It. If you were around Nancies.org at the time, you remember that it was received worse than Stand Up was in 2005. Stand Up at least had a few weeks where it was well received - and then started to fall out of favor. Everyday wasn't well liked by die hards from the start.

For what it did to this band, it deserves the hate it gets. Had the LWS been released at the time, the band would have continued their skyrocketing success as a live act, instead it polluted their live shows and left a bad taste in their fanbase's mouth.

On its own merits, it's not that bad and I tend to enjoy it more than stand up or big whiskey.

Much better album than each of their last 3 studio releases.

I actually think Everyday used to be underrated 6-7 years ago, but I find it somehow bordering on overrated these days.

I think the sequence of events definitely contributed to the overall opinion of Everyday, because it was judged against what we didn't get (tLWS) as opposed to being unrelated to any other album. And when you put Everyday (which has some beautiful songs on it, along with a few clunkers) up against the idea of an album with road-tested phenomenal live songs like Grey Street, Bartender, Grace Is Gone, Big Eyed Fish, etc., of course it's going to seem like the fan base got the short end of the stick. But time and distance has been good to the Everyday album for me... I love the clean and polished sound of it. Yes, it is very different from the DMB sound that had been established up to that point, and we know the process was not a very organic one for the other band members, but it's a great album for Dave vocally (not talking lyrics, just the capturing of his vocal nuances) and it's an enjoyable album to listen to.

It's an okay album when looking at studio. It's the second worst album behind Stand Up, and possibly better than Big Whiskey as well. But when looking at it live, it has a few phenomenal songs and a strong handful of good songs.

Great Songs: So Right, What You Are, Everyday
Good Songs: WTWE, Space Between, IIHIA, Mother Father
Bad Songs: I Did It, DOOF, Angel, FTT, STDH

That being said, it's underrated. A lot of people rank it next to SU, which is laughable. SU is a turd with the exception of YMDT and a couple decent songs.

    Everyday is a good album.

    If I had to rank:

    Space Between

    If I Had It All
    Fool To Think
    When The World Ends
    So Right
    Sleep To Dream Her
    Everyday

I would rank Everyday high above Stand Up, comfortably above AFTW, slightly above Busted Stuff (amazing songs on Busted Stuff, but I think the band by and large missed it on the studio execution of that album) and just about even with BW.

As an album I think it sucks. The production is horrible. As a collection of songs in a live setting I think it's great.

    Space between
    What you are
    Everyday
    IIHIA
    So right

Are freaking great. The album itself is horrendous.
