Tonight, I was hanging with my good friend who is a panic fan and his girl who I've only met once before. I told her I was going to see DMB at the Greek this weekend, and she totally flipped a switch on me. She told me they are a chick band like Jack Johnson and John Mayer. That only douchebags listen to them. Then my friend said, "Don't worry. He's cool". Like I was some kind of narc or something. This always happens with Panic fans. Like I have to prove myself once I say I'm a DMB fan. Like DMB fans are the worst people on earth.

I really hate they way that Panic fans treat everyone else like they are beneath them. That if you don't like Panic you must not like music at all. I feel that way about DMB! But I don't judge anyone for hating on it. Just don't hate on me for liking them!!

Seen panic twice and dmb 18 times. I much prefer our fan base than the wookies, all kidding aside judging people by their taste in music to an extreme just show how pretentious people can be.

Pertaining the core of your OP, I too have experienced some pretty extreme blow-black when mentioning my interest in DMB. I don't know what it is exactly -- DMB is one of those love 'em or hate 'em bands, I think. And those that hate them aren't generally shy about dressing you down about liking the band.

Personally, I don't care. Music is music. I actually find more in common with fans of other genres of music (alternative/punk, goth rock, EBM, Japanese rock, etc) than I do with fans of DMB. I don't care at all for the bands associated with DMB (Pearl Jam, Umphrees, Phish, Jack Johnson... can't get into any of them). DMB is sort of an anomaly for me, but still a band I love very much.

The only thing that sucks for me, is that at this point, I'm basically out of friends who care enough about DMB to attend a show anymore. I've gone to a couple DMB shows alone, and it's never the same experience (hardly worth it, IMO). That's a big reason for my lack of show attendance over the last few years.



Just have to point out your touch of hypocrisy here. I understand no one likes getting mocked for enjoying a certain band, but you say you hate it when Panic fans say 'you must not like music' if you don't like Panic, but then go on to apply that same busted logic to your love of DMB...?

Where's the hypocrisy? I'm saying I don't judge someone personally for their lack of taste in music. They aren't all of a sudden less of a friend or someone undesirable for not liking DMB, or for really liking WSP. I was treated like a Justin Bieber fan or something last night. Like they wouldn't want to be around me now that they know I like DMB. It puts me in a category of people they don't like. Like terrorists.

Um lights kill the show for me
The music is fine but you can't see if anyone is even standing on stage because they have lights overpowering everything
Just was well off listening to a live show on cd at that point

All the videos I've watched online, the lights seem to be awesome. I'll just make sure I'm good and stoned during the concert

You're obviously very sensitive and are probably that guy in the group that your friends know can't take a joke. If you get that butt-hurt over a small music discussion/disagreement, then life is going to be pretty rough for you when real shit hits the fan.

Not trying to be a dick, but really, it's music. You need to relax, not everyone is going to like what you like. And if they put you down that hard, then it's them who are the assholes and not you. Assholes always out themselves in a crowd, you don't need to waste your energy getting upset about it.

At a um show you are lucky if you can see anyone on stage because the lights are so blinding in your face

On a related note wsp has some great lights too, but you can actually see what's happening on stage as well
