Random photo post--
I work at a canoe tripping camp in Ontario during the summer, and this is probably my favorite of the many photos I took last summer. A bit grainy because I had to reduce the size a ton.

Has anyone messed around with VSCO Film? I use VSCO Cam on my iPhone and I love it.

I took this one last week, spent an hour editing it two nights ago with a buddy (the one in the picture, for anybody curious). Pretty happy with the end product.

You like the instrument panel shots? Or just some of the exterior ones later in the day?

The 2nd instrument panel (landscape) is awesome, I love the early shots too with the mtns behind the car, particularly the ones with him leaning against the car. I was thinking of a similar series this past fall with the foliage as a background instead of mountains, my friend's got a '38 Buick in awesome condition. It'll have to wait until spring/summer now, he doesn't take it out in the winter.

The photographer makes the picture, the camera just records it

I really like the first one. I feel like I'd like the 2nd one a lot more if whatever that is frame right weren't there. I feel like it's blocking half the sunset. But otherwise, they look great.

iPhone photography is awesome as long as you understand and embrace its limitations. For example, don't use it to take high speed sports action photos in horrible light.

I love using Instagram and making shots that fit inside the square format and only using my phone to take the photos (using any other camera other than the phone camera in Instagram is like cheating to me). I enjoy the challenge of working inside the constraints of no zoom, no shutter speed control, no continuous focus, etc. It's very freeing to not have to bog myself down with all those other variables. Both interesting shots... Very moody light... I'd like them even more if the horizon wasn't right in the middle of each frame...

    Fun stuff...

I agree. iPhone photography is great but one is very limited on what they can do. I'm not able to afford the camera I want so I'm sticking with the iPhone for right now. Also, I just started to get into photography so I don't think my shots are worthy enough for a DSLR. Here is my instagram account: http://instagram.com/patrick_sexton

Those are really good. You have 1300 followers, you're obviously doing something right. I love Chicago. It's one of the most photographically interesting cities to me.

That's funny Matt, I was just coming here to post that. Here's his website with the link to the photos:

    http://www.davidburnett.com/gallery....ber=1&skipno=0

The perspective control in some of them is awesome. Really makes me want to get a tilt/shift lens. I remember hearing about him being at the Olympics. I was curious to know how his shots turned out.

I really appreciate it guys! Thank you. Like I said, I'm still learning about lighting, composition, framing, etc. Do you guys know of any books or websites that are really good on those subjects?

I LOVE photographic books. Both educational books and collections of work. Find photographers you really like and devour everything they've done, you'll learn a lot just by looking at images.

Two books I really liked about composition, which I consider most people's main obstacle to producing great work are:
The Photographer's Eye - Michael Freeman
Within the Frame - David duChemin

A book I really like on exposure is:
    Perfect Exposure - Michael Freeman

Chris Orwig has also put out some books I thoroughly enjoy.

An excellent source for lighting information (although it reads like a textbook and isn't "fun"):
Light Science & Magic - Hunter, Biver, and Fuqua

Those books will probably be the tip of the iceberg if you read them. Nearly every book I've read has mentioned something else I felt I had to read after...

Composition is definitely something I need to study more. I've found that a lot of photographers I like on Instagram have been purely because they make good compositions. They are able to make subjects that I'm not even particularly interested in look good and I came to the realization that it's because of great composition.

What do you guys think of this Thirty Six app?

    http://www.tuaw.com/2013/02/05/thirt...ographer-again

I think it's kind of neat if you just want to practice developing patience, but it seems more like a training tool than something practical. I like the concept though.

Created a slideshow out of a small sampling of photos I just moved from my phone to my camera. Didn't go too into depth with the slideshow. Just added the photos and then the music. Later on when I have more time I'll try to make a nicer more creative one. Hopefully it doesn't suck....

I really want a Gopro 3 to mess around with, but the user reviews are horrible everywhere. Tons of problems with freezing up, not charging, horrible battery life, etc. I can't believe an "industry standard" device has so many problems. Anyone else used a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition?
