Re: Death Cab for Cutie Appreciation

The only time I've seen them live they BLAZED through their set, less than a minute between each song...it all seemed like a choreographed transition with how quickly they rushed from one song to next. Was it that way at last night?

"What Sarah Said" is the one song I absolutely need to see live...how was it live?

well like i said there were quite a few technical problems last night so they actually had to banter a little more with the crowd than they normally do. even Chris was talking while Ben was with his tech trying to figure stuff out.

WSS was phenomenal. Such a sad song but its so powerful and wasnt in any way inferior to the studio version.

Saw them in Columbus. It was...ok. Wasn't a big fan before, but I got free tickets. I have to say that alot of their songs sound alike.

i disagree obviously, but as good as they are live they arent the type of band that will win you over if you dont know at least a few songs

So I finally got my hands on Codes and Keys and gave it a serious listen and I absolutely love it. It starts a little slow but the rest of the cd just rides.

This has been said about every band ever at one point or another. Everyone is fine with dishing out this critique until someone says it about a band they like, then they get really defensive or think they don't know what they're talking about.

Love this set from 8/2. Makes me excited to see them soon. I'd love to see a set exactly like this (and probably will)

    I Will Possess Your Heart
    Crooked Teeth
    We Laugh Indoors
    A Movie Script Ending
    Doors Unlocked and Open
    Long Division
    Grapevine Fires
    Codes and Keys
    What Sarah Said
I Will Follow You into the Dark
    You Are a Tourist
    The New Year
    Underneath the Sycamore
    Company Calls
    Company Calls Epilogue
    Soul Meets Body
    Stay Young, Go Dancing
    Cath...
    We Looked Like Giants
    Marching Bands of Manhattan
    Encore:
    Home Is a Fire
    Title and Registration
    The Sound of Settling
    Transatlanticism

    Wasn't too far off...

    8/15 Phoenix AZ
    I Will Possess Your Heart
    Crooked Teeth>>
    We Laugh Indoors
    A Movie Script Ending
    Doors Unlocked and Open
    Long Division
    Grapevine Fires
    Codes and Keys
    What Sarah Said
I Will Follow You into the Dark
    Title and Registration
    You Are a Tourist
    The New Year
    Company Calls>>
    Company Calls Epilogue
    Soul Meets Body
    Stay Young, Go Dancing
    Cath...
    We Looked Like Giants>>
    The Sound of Settling

    Encore:
    Photobooth
    Styrofoam Plates
    Transatlanticism

It was such a good show. They mixed it up- Three songs from the Photo Album! And spread pretty evenly among Transatlanticism through Codes and Keys. They even touched We Have the Facts. Ben played guitar, piano, and drums throughout the night. Seen them three times, and this was by far the best. They sounded crisp.
Dancing to DCFC was definitely one of the more awkward things ever. As has been said, you have to know them and appreciate them before you go in. If you didn't know the music, I don't think you would enjoy it as much, since it's not always easy to get into.

That is a freaking great setlist. Of course I have two weddings the weekend they are in Florida. My friends have an uncanny ability to ruin my concert calendar.

Saw them on 8/13 in Dallas. It was so much better than the show I saw of their's in 08'. They've always been a band that doesn't mix up the setlist much, and I really don't like that about bands even though some of my favorite bands always do that...(the killers, arcade fire). There was just so much more energy and little nuances that had been added. I walked away from the 2008 show thinking I just heard them play songs exactly like they are on the album.

It's really easy to explain though. Not a groundbreaking show or a show that will change your life, but just an all around good show. They were really comfortable with the new songs. During "We Looked Like Giants" they bring a drum set out for Ben and he and the drummer have a little drum duel after a short drum solo by Ben.

I can't explain how much better this was compared to 08 though. An unbelieveable difference in how much better it was this time around.

Dang, that really makes me wish I had time to see this tour. I had that same feeling about the '09 tour. This tour sounds a lot better thus far.

Death cab is not the kind of band that will blow your mind live if youre not a huge fan but their studio stuff is so brilliant just seeing the band play the songs so well is an incredible experience

That's the perfect post, I think.

My gf who's not as into them as I am was really impressed. I've been a fan for a long time whereas she started probably around Plans or something. She loved it, said it was one of the best shows she'd been too. Of course she's 19 so she hasn't been too much.

The Codes and Keys Tour. I don't think so, because I think I remember Ben saying that we were the last stop of the tour.

Death of an interior decorator is such a great song. I love the drumming and guitar, and the lyrics are fantastic

This band's name sounds like a 15 year old emo girl's suicide note's title. Also, every song I've heard from them a haven't liked.

That night Cutie called a cab, uh huh huh
    (baby don't do it)
She left her East Side room so drab uh huh huh
    (baby don't do it)
She went out on the town
Knowin' it would make her lover frown
    (Death-cab for Cutie)
    (Death-cab for Cutie)
Someone's gonna make you pay your fare

The cab was racin' through the night, mm mm mm
    (baby don't do it)
His eyes in the mirror, keepin' Cutie in sight, uh huh huh
    (baby don't do it)
When he saw Cutie, it gave him a thrill
Don't you know, baby curves can kill
    (Death-cab for Cutie)
    (Death-cab for Cutie)
Someone's gonna make you pay your fare
Cutie, don't you play with fate
    Don't leave your lover alone
If you go out on this date
His heart will turn to stone

Bad girl, Cutie, what have you done, uh huh huh
    (baby don't do it)
Slippin' slidin' down-a Highway 31, mm mm mm
    (baby don't do it)
The traffic lights changed from green to red
They tried to stop but they both wound up dead
    (Death-cab for Cutie)
    (Death-cab for Cutie)
Someone's gonna make you pay your fare

is that really the lyrics to one of their songs? Lyrical genius, I'd say.
