Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Release Date: July 7th, 2017

Logo: http://static.srcdn.com/slir/w940-h5...2017-Logo.jpeg

Starring: Tom Holland

Director: Jon Watts

Kevin Fiege, last year with THR, on how this works being a Sony movie.

Quote:
FEIGE: Well, we're producing it for Sony. It's exciting, and we're treating it like we treat all of our films. To try to make the best version now of Spider-Man and a version of Spider-Man that inhabits this universe that we've created. We're in lockstep with [Sony Motion Picture Group chairman] Tom Rothman and [producer] Amy Pascal at every turn.

So some of your Marvel characters will show up in the Sony Spider-Man movies?

FEIGE: Specifics of the story aside, the agreement that has been made between Sony and Marvel is that we could do that.

Do you risk giving up any of your autonomy by working with Sony?

FEIGE: Without getting into the contracts, it's definitely a Sony picture, produced by Marvel Studios. We've been working with each other for a number of months now. It's been just as healthy as any of our internal discussions. We just look at it as having additional team members. We wouldn't want to do it if we couldn't do it in the way we've done all the other movies, and I think that's what Sony wants from us.

I dig the logo, but not a fan of the title.

This obviously won't be based on the Homecoming comic: Pic here, I don't see any way they go back to the symbiote only 10 years removed from Spider-Man 3.

Rumors online today suggested the Vulture will be the villain, and I'd actually be happy with that decision.

    "Homecoming"?

I like Spiderman, the Raimi trilogy was the first superhero films I was really into (along with X-Men), but give me a break with that title. Legit lol'd IRL when I read that this morning.

This is what Raimi wanted to do with Spidey 4. Also, no Venom until Spidey 5! But, you know, studios. Hopefully they'll piss off this time and let the director do his job.

I would love to see a good on screen version of Carnage. Next to Venom, Carnage has always been my favorite Spidey-villain. Would also be nice if Venom could be done correctly. Get an actor who actually looks like Brock in the comics.

    Garfield wouldn't have worked.

Of course Uncle Ben is dead. That be like saying Bruce's parents won't bite the big one. Since he's already Spidey in Civil War, we can assume Ben is already dead. Given that this is Marvel Studio's take on Spidey, it won't be rebooted for a long time.

Personally I'd rather suffer the 3rd reboot than not have him in the MCU.

What a dumb movie title. Spidey has such great titles from the comics to work with, too (Spectacular Spiderman, Sensational Spiderman, Web of Spiderman). Although I guess I understand how they wouldn't want a title that could in any way be associated with the two Amazing Spiderman movies.

Do you not like the title because you aren't familiar with the comic run from the mid-80's, or do you not like them trying to adapt that story?

    Homecoming occurs after Secret Wars

If they are going to adapt it at least they've already established the cosmic side of Marvel. Since we know Star Lord will be Infinity Wars, maybe he heads to earth at the end of GOTG2 with the symbiote.

You could have Spider-Man obtain the black suit to defeat whoever the villain is in the solo film, and then introduce Venom in the 2nd film or even Infinity Wars.

    Re: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Question for everyone - I feel that the Garfield Spiderman series gets typically trashed as a whole, but how did everyone here feel about Amazing Spiderman (the first in the Garfield series)? I found the sequel to be a trainwreck, but I thought in the original, Garfield was a WAYYYY better Peter Parker/Spiderman than Tobey ever was, and I thought they nailed some of the high school teenage angst stuff. I think Amazing Spiderman suffered for the fact that it was the exact same origin story so shortly after the Raimi movies, but I think in a vaccuum, the Garfield one actually did a better job of telling that story.

But yeah, the sequel was just terrible.

    Re: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Garfield was a fantastic Spidey. But I also enjoyed the Tobey Spidey as well. I would probably give the edge to Garfield, but I've enjoyed every Spider-Man movie so far in their own way. I try to approach each film objectively instead of going "blah, another reboot of Spider-Man". Usually I'm not a fan of reboots but they can be done well, and the Garfield reboot was very well done.

I liked Garfield, but he was the only good thing about the recent reboot. Neither nailed Spidey's wit/humor but Garfield did it much better than Toby.

Biggest issue with the reboot was the awful sequel. However the first movie was too much of an origin story. Look at Batman V Superman as an example of doing it right. They wove in Batman's origin in just a few scenes. Marvel has been saying they don't see the need to rehash the origin a third time. I wouldn't be against a few origin flashbacks if it serves a purpose.

Amazing Spiderman Uno was garbage, too. That movie was a movie that tried to tie itself to our universe, basically. Be "serious". The only problem with that is, eventually there is a giant lizard monster. Garfield explaining that to Bacon was the moment two universes of the same movie crashed into each other and went to absolute shit. Dos was maybe the worst superhero movie I have ever seen that didn't have Halle Berry in a cat suit.

Well, if it's the Homecoming story from comics, it won't be an origin story, so we won't see it rehashed. Homecoming fell after Secret Wars. If you want to get a good feel for the comic universe at that point, there is a mini series that came out a few years ago called Spider-Man & The Secret Wars that is a good read. You can also read, of course, the issue for which the movie namesake comes (Amazing, 1, 252).

in all seriousness, why are they ever including any origin story? flashbacks or otherwise?

I explained above. If it's the Homecoming story from comics, it won't be an origin story, so we won't see it rehashed.
