Re: Essential DMBLive

Forgot about one I had, Dave at the China Club in 2004 and it isn't worth it imo, he's just mumbling between songs and his singing is all over the place. Benaroya destroys China Club.

    Question about the DMBLive series...

Are these releases mastered, matrix shows, ala Live Trax? Or are they more raw sounding, straight soundboard recordings?

    Thanks in advance!

They are mastered but not fully mixed like a live trax. Most of them are not recorded in multi track. I think what I just stated is accurate . Help me out here Doby if I've missed something.

Tampa is a stellar release. Frank Irwin has my favorite nancies ever thanks to Roi's underplaying throughout the song. Not a release that's talked about often

Was going through my DMBLive list in iTunes and looking at what I don't have. These are the releases I don't currently have:

    1993 - Memphis D&T (Richmond)
    1993 - Prism D&T (Charlottesville)
    1994 - Blue Note (Columbia)
    1994 - Backstage Theatre (Seattle)
    1994 - Masquerade (Tampa)
    1994 - (4/6/94) Georgia Theater (Athens)
    1994 - (10/14/94) Georgia Theater (Athens)
    1995 - Mud Island (Memphis)
    1995 - Academy (New York)
1995 - Cameron Indoor Stadium (Durham)
    1995 - Palace Theatre (Albany)
    1995 - Revolver Club (Spain)
1996 - Oak Mountain Amp (Pelham)
    1996 - MSG (NYC)

Any of these must have releases?

Yes, you basically HAVE to get the bolded. Especially the last two I bolded. I believe Tampa is the one with the best sound quality.

I think so, I believe that's one I've heard Doby praise before.

I think Academy was the acoustic show and Durham was the first #41, if I recall correctly

All but Spain. I've heard it's no better than a taper pull sound quality wise.

Good luck trying to legally find that Spain show as anything other than what the band is selling.

Half a year has gone by without a new DMBLive release. They need to step things up.

I mean, I get that they released it because there's no known taper copy but it doesn't look like it's anything special. Standard 1995 show.

Been a while since they released one of these... now would be a perfect time. I’d buy just about anything just to hear something new while we wait for the next big release to drop.

Given how tied up most of my spending money is until the very end of May, I hope the next DMBLive is a D&T show so I don’t have to bother. Unless they want to spring a full band release on us sometime in June .

We really need that Madison Square Garden show from 98 released. They were on fire that whole tour, but that show is something else.

    That 11.30.98 show is incredible.

Someone brought it up in the DMB RSD thread and I was reminded how great it is. That Two Step is awesome with Bela too.
