Ok good to know. The public courses in both San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano are nice, nothing special, but nice courses. Parts of the San Clemente course will offer ocean views, other parts have you in residential areas. Below are links to 3 courses I played many years ago that were all fun. )No, I do not play anymore. Gave it up because I just didn't have the time to dedicate to get better.)

I know Irvine has a ton of courses (some very close to the venue) and one that I always heard good things about was Strawberry Farms. Looks like you can book a round after 3:00 pm for a pretty good rate, between $60-$75. Here is there site if you want to check it out.

These are just ones that I know of, but you can pretty much pick any city from San Diego to Long Beach and Google [city name] golf course and something will pop up.
