Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
I picked up something today in one of these youtube recap videos that, frankly I can't BELIEVE I didn't realize immediately. And it's the whole sequence of the play-within-the-show. I guess I was so caught up in how interesting and funny it was, to see this series have characters doing a very crudely dramatized version of itself (with many of the individual motivations all wrong, btw), it didn't hit me til later, it's no accident that Arya was given THIS JOB. To scope out this older actress woman to kill her, even if she wasn't herself "bad", and didn't "deserve death" or whatever. But that it was given to Arya as a test in of itself, could she bear to stand by and have a very encapsulated version of her past play right before he eyes, and still be able to let all of that hate and vengeance go, to truly become "no one".
just brilliant.
well and it hit me right after I wrote that. I wonder what the chances are that that lady isn't a target of the Faceless Men at all, that the younger girl didn't hire them to kill her, and that they wouldn't engage in such a thing. but that it was ALL a set up merely to test Arya, see how much she still clings to her name.
