If I lived in the South Pacific Ocean or very southern Chile/Argentina, I'd be pretty stoked.

If I drive out to Gisborne on the east cape, I may see it, unless that angle is funny and it doesn't actually hit the east coast of NZ. The article doesn't mention NZ as a visible location.

Nah, I think the start is about 1,200 miles off your NE coast. Close considering the geographical span of the eclipse, but not close enough to sneak a peek, I don't think.

Man, if I were you, I would definitely see if you can see any of it. I think the next time a solar eclipse happens over my continent is like, 2017 if memory serves. Go for it! Once in a lifetime opportunity (maybe twice)

What are the purple lines? Partial visibility? Or is it only visible within the blue?

Oh, good call. I was only reading about totality. Didn't think about partiality.

It'd help if that damn map had a legend letting you know what the colors meant.

Everything I've read only mentions visibility for Cooke and Easter Islands as well as Chile and Argentina...

Yeah, down below they have an explanation of the solar eclipse predictions, but no where does it say what the different colored lines are.

I cannot understand this site at all. And it's 3:30 am so that doesn't help.

    It should say:

    Can I see it?
    Enter location:
    Yes/no.

Then a link that says "click here for confusing sciencey stuff that you dont really need to know but you're probably bored"

Can't believe no one bumped this thread before today. Yesterday's eclipse was totally
Awesome. 1.5 minutes of 100 percent totality where I was. Streetlight came on, night insects started chirping, twilight sky. Ready for the next one in the U.S. in 2024. What are some of your eclipse stories from yesterday?

Got about 76% coverage here in Southern Ontario region, was very cool - had eclipse glasses so got to see it about an hour before, at max, then later in the day got a look at the sun once it was 100% full again - looks so cool with solar glasses. Only did about 20 seconds at a time, says up to 3 mins but better safe than sorry.

Seeing some footage from places with 100% was awesome. Where I am will get 100% eclipse with the April 8th, 2024 one so not long to wait for.

My wife took a pic with a colander, all the holes cast crescent shadows...some cool pics online of those taking shots of the light falling through trees. Such a cool event.

I just read that NASA is saying if you have the newer glasses with the right ISO certification on them, even that 3 minute rule is outdated, as well as the one where it says to discard them after a couple years. Say now they should be good indefinitely, as long as they're not scratched and crap.

We had totality in St. Louis. Everyone was really making a big deal out of it, I really thought it was being blown out of proportion and wasn't overly excited... but when it actually started I got surprisingly into it. It really was amazing to witness. I'm thinking of making plans to drive to a place that has totality in 2024, it's not far from me at all.
