They know what's riding on this album. This could be a complete rejuvenation of their popularity, if they aim high enough.
And I think they've been holding out on us for a long time... there's so much good material out there they haven't released. I've been listening to "Good Good Time", "Sugar Will", and all of the newer songs, and even if they don't use those exact songs on the album, what I hear is an incredible amount of potential for making an album that stacks up against the likes of Crash and BTCS.
Tim Reynolds, by the way, is responsible for so much of their early sound--he's all over the place on those albums, and the best news (for me) is that having Tim in the studio with an extra guitar means they don't have to try and fill sonic space with as much organ & piano as they did on Stand Up... not saying these are bad instruments, but for those eager to hear this band flying again on their signature sound palette, having Tim around means more complexity and more echoes of the old days.
I'm encouraged by their decision not to rush it, but at the same time, my anticipation for this project is huge.... I want to spend the whole summer with a new DMB album in my stereo.
