Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Kong Skull Island - 7.5/10

I went in just wanting big action and such and I was pleasantly surprised that it actually was very stylistic and fairly well developed. The effects and camera work were great. It had a nice blend of comedy built in and, amazingly, avoided being too cheesy. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm looking forward to the Godzilla vs. King Kong mashup movie that's coming eventually.

The response to Edgar Wright's Baby Driver has been ridiculously positive coming out of SXSW, and the trailer has me thinking of it as a more commercialized version of Drive.

    http://collider.com/baby-driver-trailer/

One review of note also called it the La La Land of car chase movies. It was already one of my ten most anticipated movies of the year, but I may have to bump it up even further. Wright has yet to disappoint me.

A quirky vigilante movie with Melanie Lynskey & Elijah Wood.

I watched that last night as well. it was enjoyable. it's the same vein almost exactly as the saulnier movies, but a little lighter

I've seen it compared to blood simple as well which I could almost see

Looks like a slick style mixed with a phenomenal cast, but it's another "one last job" movie. How many of those will be made until it's "one last one last job movie?"

this is the last one BEFORE that. we promise.

I knew James Franco was making a movie about the making of The Room (which I've still never seen) but didn't realize the cast was that good. also, that still from them sitting in a theater... holy shit, I had to read it to realize that was Franco, he's damn near unrecognizable. I mean, I knew immediately Dave was on the left, but even with his hand in front of his face, wow that does NOT look like James on the right.

I saw Kong Skull Island back in November, I was very impressed with it and that was an unfinished version. Excited to see the finished product.

I watched the original Alien (1979) last night for the first time. For all the praise it seems to get as a classic masterpiece in sci-fi or horror, it did nothing for me. It dragged on. I think Ripley ran through every hallway on that ship. I was bored. In 79 it was revolutionary, I get that, but all the art and effects in the world could not save the pacing.

Fences - Now that's a movie right there! Absolutely loved it.

Of the last five "newer" movies I've seen (I'm always way behind) it's my #1

    Fences
    Hacksaw Ridge
    Arrival
    Nocturnal Animals
    Manchester

I know what you mean. I honestly just love Denzel so much, that's the only reason I decided to watch it. It exceeded every expectation I had going in. It moved me. I found the dialogue extrememly interesting, and I loved how it basically all took place at the house. Felt like I was watching a play at a theatre or something.

Funny you posted this, two weekends ago I watched the first two for the first time. I had the same feeling about the first one as you. Definitely did not expect that Ash was an android before that scene.

Ya, Ash was a complete surprise to me also. I had planned on watching every film in the series, including the Alien v Predator films, but I don't know if I want to commit that much time to a franchise in which I didn't even care for the first installment.

I'm not much of a movie person, but have been on a kick this week:

Arrival - Really enjoyed it. Not at all what I was expecting, and was pleasantly surprised.

Dr. Strange: Not much of a comic book person, and I don't know much canon or lore, but I was into it.

Iron Man: Again, I don't know much about superheros, etc., but it wasn't bad. I'm not sure I'd watch the sequels.

This is Spinal Tap: I can't believe I've never seen it before. I laughed through most of it.

I would at the very least give Aliens a shot.

Wouldn't bother with the rest though.
