I don't really get it. Lyrically speaking, Drunken Soldier may be pretty direct, but not much more so than You Never Know. Yet one is derided as cringeworthy and one is beloved by many.

If Drunken Soldier would have been on LWS, everyone would love it.

I've just seen a lot of hate on it recently. Maybe because the LL sing on it sometimes. But I think many people have developed a cutoff point and anything that comes out after it must obviously be inferior.

For some it's BTCS, for some it's LWS, but it seems pretty common. Point being, if DS had come out in 2000 instead of 2012, I think it would be better regarded.

Definitely plenty of hate for that.

Yea, still a really bad argument. People don't think Dippy Doo Doo is a terrible song because it was released after tLWS. It's just a terrible song. And people like the good songs, like Shotgun, Beach Ball, Broken Things, and Snow Outside that came out in the modern era.

I like DS a lot. The chorus is cringe worthy. Theres some songs that the lyrics really drag down, and thats one of them. I wasnt comparing it to YNK, I was comparing it to DT. In that regard, its not even close.

EDIT: Putting the LL's on Drunken is one of the worst decisions this band has ever made.

They're both kind of preachy and direct. Yet somehow I really like both of these songs. Just pointing out the similarity vs the perception of the songs.

And neither one really matches up to pretty much anything on BTCS. Still love both though.

Try reading the rest of the lyrics for YNK, not just one line. I like DS a lot, but it's not exactly a deep lyrical song.

How can you read through those and not say YNK is much much stronger lyrically than DS?

Everyone picks out those 1-2 lines in YNK and acts like its bad. ALL of DS is sub-par.
