They made 36 Live Trax because no matter how large, there is a demand for this band's live performances. I see very little justification for not releasing a blu ray in The Year of Our Lord 2015. No one is advocating they do so at the same price point. It's a more expensive medium. It comes down to laziness and the fact that they're not concerned with putting out the best quality product.
This is a good point. Just charge more. They made the effort to have more tshirts, a blanket, and even commissioned methane to do a foil variant of the poster to release along with this. Cut out the blanket and give us a blu ray

I'm not arguing it isn't a business. I'm arguing that ~10 year old technology is not cost prohibitive for one of the most financially successful bands of all time.

I'm curious to know how these LTs actually sell. I don't ever remember seeing any data on it. For the in-store releases, sure, but never for LTs. Maybe they really don't move enough to justify BDs being offered.

Cant believe people are saying theyd rather have N1. With songs like Rye Whiskey, Be Yourself, SpaceBread. Yuck. At least this release the acoustic set is spot on.

I have not listened to the tape, but does this seem like a really short two step? Can somebody shed some light on the arrangement please?

It was supposed to be SMLAM. This release would be turd city if it turned out that way.

As I recall they play the song like normal, Tim solos and then after he is done, it goes directly into Halloween.

It is short for an "electric" Two Step. The full song was played up until the point right after Tim's solo and when it would normally go to Carter's solo.

Carter then flip over to the intro to Halloween and the band switches on a dime.

Check out the video and you can see Carter and Dave talking about how they're gonna do it for a good minute, since it was a switch from Shake Me.

The audio is not that good straight from a phone, but I made a personal copy and put the audio from the taper release under it instead.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWn0qhKK5oo

The only thing better than this being released was being there in the middle of the pit when it happened.

It flopped because its OAR and their biggest selling release ever was MSG in 2007. Look at their shows nowadays noone goes. Their popularity died in 2010... and they even did a Blu Ray for MSG!

And no, better audio on BluRay is not motivation enough to horde discs.
Everyone is super impressed that you know how to stream and download 1080p movies. If we want to get into the technical aspects, a film on Blu-ray has a better bit rate than your fancy HD digital downloads... and let's not even get started talking about UHD Blu-ray coming at the end of this year.

Ultimately though, why come on here to complain about them releasing tangible media? I think most of their fans still want tangible media. Ever heard of vinyl?

Utterly illogical, how the fuck do you cut off anyone by ADDING A BLU-RAY OPTION?

Here let me post this again:

    Supply and Demand.

The supply of Blu-rays from DMB is low (1x Dave and Tim show), creating high demand. I believe that no matter the show, if a Blu-ray was released, there would be high demand.

    It is really quite simple.

I get that everyone wants all live trax to have a Vinyl, CD, Digital (in 4-5 different formats), cassettes (they're coming back!), DVD, Blu-ray, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Itunes, but the amount of sales that this thing is going to generate does allow for that kind of flexibility. So you go with what you can sell the most of at a reasonable price. In this case, that's the DVD.

I agree, it'd be lovely to say, "Well just add an OPTION for Blu, and people that want that can buy it, and others can by the DVD, and others can stream it on Hulu." It'd be amazing. I'd love it.

But there's not the sales numbers to justify multiple formats.

For the person that said the market for people buying Live Trax 36 will be "sizable", I'm not sure how many non-ant DMB superfans in every day life there are that have any idea what Live Trax is

The cost difference is honestly quite minimal from a replication/pressing standpoint. It is a bit more expensive to get the HD masters done properly, but seriously... not THAT big of a difference, and we're talking a one time expense.

I do happen to know what I'm talking about on this one... I've worked in post-production in Burbank for about 12 years now.
