Livenation was literally trying to give away pit tickets in 2013. I hope it's the same again this year.

I hope the July 3/4 dates are correct. I preemptively asked for those days off from work in early December.

Anyone ever stay at Americinn in Elkhorn? That's where my backup is in case I can't get in the resort. No more camping for me. My old lady back says she needs a real bed and a hot shower!

I've only done lawn at Alpine in the past. How are the pit and pavilion? I don't dislike the lawn at Alpine, but might try something different this year.

The pit at Alpine is HUGE. One of the few pits where you will easily have room to spread out if you don't care about getting railed.

Pavilion is also awesome. Even the far back of the pavilion is 100x better than lawn. Great sound and great views all around. The only seats to watch out for are the seats to the far sides in Sections 201 and 203 - anything more than about halfway down the row and you run the risk of getting part of your view cut off. For whatever reason, every time DMB plays there, they stack up tons of equipment and cases to either side of the band and it ends off cutting off some of the views if you're too far to the side.

I stayed at an Americinn in 2012, but not in Elkhorn, in Burlington. It was fine - nothing fancy but it was clean and the A/C worked well, which was essential for that weekend for anyone that was there!

I spoke with her last week trying to get her to book me a room and she wouldn't. I was not happy. Have stayed there the last 6 years and she wouldn't book until April 15th. I'm driving there that night at midnight to book rooms because you will never get through on the the phone.

Stay in Lake Geneva or Milwaukee...or even the suburbs of Chicago.

He's right guys....I was just playing. Lawn is the ONLY way to go. Every seat in the pavilion has a pillar in front of it and if you leave to go to the bathroom, they give your seat away.

I'm not sure why everyone is so surprised that it's back. I remember last year wondering why everyone was so convinced that it was gone forever. To me, it was obvious that the reason they weren't playing Alpine was because they were headlining Summerfest, which is <40 miles away from Alpine and Summerfest almost certainly has a proximity clause that wouldn't allow them to play Alpine.

I know a lot of folks talked about them going back to Summerfest this year, but that didn't really make sense because they very rarely have repeat headliners from year to year.

And yes, attendance at Alpine was down in 2013 from what it was prior - but they still averaged 24,000 people per night for a two-night stand - not exactly small potatoes. Without doing any research I'd doubt that there were any other 2-nighters in 2013 that had that many people, were there?
2012 they had 58,000 over two nights, and 2010 was sold out. Alpine is MASSIVE. Very few bands are going to be able to legit sell it out. But that doesn't mean that they're not still making a shitload of money getting 20,000-30,000 people per night in there.

I was pit & center pavilion in 2013. Listen to this guy, it was a horrendous experience. Lawn is the only way to go, even better than Gorge's lawn.

It's really a shame. I know I'm going in on lawns this year. Pit/Pavilion sucks.

Best spot on the lawn is stage right (near the concession building). Though I haven't sat lawn since 2007, it's got excellent site lines of the stage. The view and sound from here is better than any other lawn I've sat on (excluding Gorge).

Who bought Alpine Valley? That place literally was for sale last year. I know my $100 offer was rejected.

Just hope this rumor is true because we all missed Alpine last year. Summerfest ... well, I don't have many nice things to say about the Marcus Amphitheater. Alpine Valley is the such an amazing outdoor venue. May it be back in the DMB fold forever.

I haven't camped since 2007, but I always had a blast at Rome Riverside Campground, very cool place.

There's also McIntyre's, Bong, several others.

Sitting front and center was truly terrible - No line of sight on the band, music sounded awful. Sitting there ruined the Alpine experience.

Never trusting one of you for sale posts again.
