Re: Sushi Burrito

As a concept, it sounds like a cultural abomination that only America would concoct.

As a thing that exists in the world, sure, I'd probably give it a shot.

Hey I remember you taco bell boy. Lets argue again today about food.

You seem to know your stuff. Lets not confuse actual fusion with this trendy new term popping up in restaurants everywhere, "fusion."

    I like sushi.
    I like mexican.

Ooooh oooh i have this great idea, i'll make a sushi burrito

I know, I sound like a dick. Personally I love sushi and the history behind it, the simplicity, the effort into making the rice the most important part. Nowadays forget it. Most places around me are filled with 10 ingredient maki rolls with 3 different sauces that spell "fucking idiot" in cursive on the dish. So my aggravation with the direction "sushi" is going is clearly hitting a nerve lol grrrrrrrr i'm so so mad rofl

I'd love to unpack this idea of how you insult a cuisine.

Meh, I don't really care if it's some sort of cultural abomination as long as it's good.

Chi'lantro here in Austin is a Korean-Mexican fusion place. They're most known for their Kimchi Fries. Sure, sounds like America ruining Korean food with fries, but I don't give a shit. They're amazing.

KFC is making a pizza now with a chicken crust. I'm not sure how many cuisines that insults, but I'm going to eat it.

I had lobster bisque fries a couple weeks ago. They were delicious. Is that a US bastardization of french cuisine?

We have a place in Memphis that makes these. I grabbed one the other night. It was pretty good. Wasn't anything special. It was basically just a giant uncut sushi roll...because that's exactly what it is.

First lets iron out the wrinkles with reading comprehension or just basic common sense interpretation, then maybe we can discuss the idea of how a dish can be an insult to its cultural history.

You do realize fish is a major ingredient in tons of mexican dishes, right?

I was gonna say this. Ceviche is a pretty traditional dish, as is Aguachile. Lots of good, traditional fish dishes in Mexico. They have a ton of coast, so fish is a given.

Don't really give a fuck about Mexico or Mexicans, tbh. As long as I can go to a good Mexican restaurant ran by Greeks with Asian cooks, I'm fine, because that's America. I'm not a fan of tacos. The only fish I eat is what I catch, so I don't eat fish very often. Oh, sure...once every couple of years I'll go to a really decent restaurant and have fish. I'm not sure who thought fish tacos would be a good idea, but they must have been stoned. And yes, I've tried them.

I respect other people think they're the bees knees, but not my cup of tea.

Defcon's fish tacos opinion is probably the worst opinion that's ever been posted on the internet.

    Sushi burrito looks good.

Top Golf has a "mushi" that's Mexican sushi but really just looks like a burrito sliced like sushi rolls.

There's a newer upscale place here, I think a few locations in NC, called CowFish. Amazing burgers, haven't had much of just the sushi, but really good burger type plates that are made like sushi, and really good sushi /fish dishes that are made like burgers. Love that place.

There is one near me but I haven't eaten there. I tried to go one night and it was just totally slam packed. I'll have to try again sometime. What is your favorite thing on the menu?

    It's a place called Sushi Jimmi: https://www.facebook.com/SushiJimmi/

It's probably 15-20 minutes from the Orpheum.

(Also: If you're going to the Orpheum, there's a parking lot called Parking Can Be Fun thats a few blocks walk, maybe ~5-8 minutes from the Orpheum that has way cheaper parking that anything you'll find right next to the theater.)
