Yep! So awesome. I was worried that they'd play Lolla then not show up in my area after that.

Hitting the Madison show so I can see FR as well. Two of my favorites on one night!!

That's the one reason I don't feel bad paying a decent amount for this festival ticket. I've never seen The Walkmen and Of Monsters & Men, both of which I've gotten into recently.

I haven't heard any of these yet, which is why I'm hopeful that maybe Demons and Don't Swallow the Cap just aren't for me.

I've seen Walkmen twice. Once was a festival set and they broke out their rockers. The other was a headliner gig in a small venue and they were far more mellow.

OMAM also was a festival, but they were the best act there other than Jack White. Their act translated live quite well.

The road tested song Sullivan, which I think is awesome, is renamed Humiliation and is on the record. Another plus for me at least.

I'm actually kind of surprised The National is big enough to have acts like Frightened Rabbit and Local Natives opening for them. They always have fantastic openers...I see them as a band that other bands recognize as legit talent so they like to associate themselves with the National. Because I just don't see other bands joining the National b/c they think it's going to sell really well.

I've never heard of Frightened Rabbit. Local Natives aren't that big either in the grand scheme of things. The National are one of the pillars of the indie scene at this point. You can't mention the indie scene without mentioning them. They're on the same level of Arcade Fire but without the energetic pop sensibility.

They'll probably debut at or near #1. Don't be fooled into thinking they aren't big at this point. Everyone is pointing to this potentially being their REM moment (I doubt ti will, they just aren't the stadium type).

Daft Punk will be #1. I have no doubt they'll be #2 though. Well, Vampire Weekend might get #2.

Sounds like most reviews consider this next album to be more Sad Songs than HV or Boxer. From what we've heard I'm not sure if I believe that.

Oh shit i didn't know that, my bad. There are people with physical copies already.

Anyway, maybe. I see Hootie and 30STM have new releases that day as well. We shall see. Top 5 showing would still be strong with very limited radio play.

I know this all kind of depends on who you hang out with and how music knowledgeable your community is, but I still feel like The National is consistently the band that not enough people know about considering how solid they've been for the last decade. They can sell out shows and sell records, but there aren't densely packed masses of people that love the National...feel like we're all spread out.

    - Do yourself a favor and check out Frightened Rabbit. Scottish Indie Rock band with fantastic melodies and heartfelt music.

    - Another one of their openers, Daughter, is a female-led British group that makes beautiful music, kind of darker/lost love themes, beautiful vulnerable vocals, but a real undiscovered talent. They're a group I've been trying spread the word about for the last 2 years. First LP just dropped.

    Re: The National

    Will check them out, thanks.

I guess my point is, they are bigger than most fans like to think. I still like to think of them as my own little band that I love and no one else knows about (hipster cred). But the fact is they are playing the Barclay's Center and they are very close to becoming a stadium show. They probably need a major hit to do it, but they're as close as you can get with no hits. It really is remarkable and demonstrates their quality above all else. They've done it the old-fashioned way.

Not going to lie, it is amazing how in tune I am with this band. My mood can swing from song to song. Sometimes I can only write my own lyrics while listening to their own music.

They're my favorite band and have been since 2007, so it's weird for me to think that they can get this big.

Sea of Love sounds like what could be their crossover hit. Doesn't have the ferocity it did live at the end, but it still is quite a nice climax and that's typical of most of their songs. I dig it.

I just listened to their performance of "I Need My Girl" on Jimmy Fallon's show: http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon....my-girl/n35948

The guitar melody sounds like a slower, more melancholy version of Sufjan Steven's "Pleasure Principle", which is the ending to his song "Impossible Soul" (hear it here: http://youtu.be/zivRqjdQ_0M). Since they play on each other's material so often and are such good friends I wonder if that was totally accidental, or if they helped each other come up with that melody.
