There were rumors that they were working on both. Then they debuted Running Down A Dream, however Monkey Man never showed.

given how big some of these "final shows" runs growing in such buzz now i wonder if they will bust out a monkey man on a planned last tour or on a decade marking touring year (30th or 40th anny). I saw rush last month and they just played losing it for toronto, MSG and Jersey shows for the first time ever for what appears to be their final assumed world tour. The song was never played live until this tour from the Signals album. Still may not ever happen but who knows.

Agree 100% with the OP on this one. Monkey Man is the highlight from the Lillywhite Sessions, IMO. It just seems so... complete to me, even without Boyd - especially from a lyrical perspective. I suppose Dive In is the spiritual successor in this regard, but it's highly inferior. The disappearance of this song will always be the biggest DMB mystery to me; it's got such a chill groove. As a songwriter myself, I just can't understand why this one would be abandoned; it's got "Ah, my work here is complete" written all over it.

Monkey Man was a fan-fucking-tastic song. No reason why it shouldn't be played with the rest of the tLWS gems.

Listening to this song right now. What I wouldn't do to hear what this song (and the rest of tLWS) could have been in their fully finished and mastered forms. It's a shame.
