Definitely a self preservation song, on the verge of selfish, but I don't think he ever took it that far in this song, almost, but not entirely there. I still like April Demo more, but I can see how one would enjoy the strings. The April Demo captures a moment in time, the album version sort of takes away from that, still great though.

At first I was somewhat turned off by Baby Blue because of its similarities to Sister. But I realized how personal both of these songs must be to him, both dealing w/ death about someone really close to him. I think it's an extremely poetic statement, Dave

I think sometimes people say things are many things when they'd prefer not to go into detail about the total meaning. In this quote you've given he says it's about a lot of things -- mostly about death-_loss_ and saying goodbye. In that way it's about Roi - LOSS and saying goodbye.

It seems to me someone asked if Baby Blue is about Roi and Dave answered like you would to a child not wanting to crush the child's thought -- you'd say yes, but not exactly -- it's more like this but also says that.

When he used to introduce sister in concert, wasnt the story that he had the music and couldnt figure out the lyrics. So he called his sister (Jane being the only surviving one) and she told him to take his head out of his ass or something and he realized to write it about her.

He never used the name Jane but Im pretty sure he said he called her around ~2006 ensuring its being about Jane. At least thats what I think.

ehhh idk about that. its definitely in the bottom half of the album for me. musically its ok but everytime i listen to it i cant believe they didnt re-record daves vocals. his voice straight up cracks like 3 times, and no, it doesnt give it a more 'raw' or 'stripped down' feel, it just sounds like dave cant hit the notes.

but i do like it and love the album.

This song actually ranks last on the album for me, but that doesn't say much because this is a great album. Not that I don't like the song, I just like the other songs better. I do love how Rob kept the rawness in Dave's voice instead of using a more polished vocal track, adds to the emotion.

save that kind of thinking for a great recording of this song with D+T or something, not the studio version.

I used to have an early live recording of Sister where Dave said that when he and his sister were young, they used to pretend that their hearts were mixed up - she got his heart and he got her's, so he could feel what she felt because he had her heart.

I wish I still had that recording. If anyone has it, please share.

I don't get why people think this. Why can't a studio recording be raw, powerful and emotional? Especially if that makes the cut that much more strong?

I actually like Baby Blue a little more without the strings because it makes it even MORE raw.

After listening to the album non stop since it came out, I have been fading in and out of songs that I like, and right now I'm getting over Baby Blue, it just doesnt do it for me, kinda repetative and boring, same for lying in the hands of god. But then again I may like both those songs in about an hour.

Anyone else have that same problem?
