This is the equivalent of The Academy Awards nominating Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, New Moon, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and Inglorious Bastards for Best Picture. That shit would never fly.

Despite the animosity Ants have towards them, they used to be a viable and respected organization. Last rime I checked, The Grammys was THE music awards. From their website...

Quote:
The recording industry's most prestigious award, the GRAMMY, is presented annually by The Recording Academy. A GRAMMY is awarded by The Recording Academy's voting membership to honor excellence in the recording arts and sciences. It is truly a peer honor, awarded by and to artists and technical professionals for artistic or technical achievement, not sales or chart positions.
How can they even say this after the despicable group of nominees they are putting forth this year?

So I guess what I'm getting at is: What happened? And will it continue to decline in validity like it has, or will The Grammys get their head out of their ass and start recognizing actual music achievements?

The Grammys are now merely a reflection of just how low the standard of quality in popular music has sunk over the past decade.

Ditto. Some things in life just aren't fair. We should be grateful they are even recognized though.

Actually, this is one of the better crops of AOTY nominations they've put up in awhile. DMB, Lady Gaga, Sasha Fierce, and Taylor Swift are all legitimate pop albums, fairly evenly matched. The E.N.D. is the only bad one of the bunch, meaning it'll probably win.

it's kinda funny how when DMB gets dissed at the grammys, everyone bitches about how the grammys are meaningless, etc. then when they're nominated, everyone loves it.

anyway, they all suck. so there.

This isn't Best Pop Album though. The group of "more than 150 experts in various fields" that choose the nominees should know better.

I also wanna know this in addition to the answers to the questions the OP posed, but ....

How do they decide who gets the awards?

Is there like a panel of prestige judges that decide this? Do other people decide who get these awards? Is it based on album sale? Critic claims? Is it all based on money and politics like usual? Or what?.........

I don't think they would win over BEP, Swift, or Gaga. How many singles did the BEP's release this year? I just know every time I looked at a chart it was a different BEP song at #1.

The Rap album category actually looks pretty decent.

But it is, though. The album of the year is not going to come from a non-popular genre. The best album of the year might actually be a bluegrass album that 20 people have heard, but it won't be nominated. The album of the year award has always been a popularity contest, and when it's not, it's the ceremony trying to show everyone that it's not just a popularity contest (Hancock, Plant/Krauss).

Album of the year will continually come from the most popular acts of the time, regardless of what genre it actually is.

Using my deductive skills, I see DMB as a legitimate contender. Gaga and Swift are tied for the favorite, DMB behind them, playing the roll of the less-mainstream spoiler. Beyonce and BEP are there on name recognition, and I would assume won't be seriously considered.

If I were to guess further, I'm thinking that one of the two favorite girls will sweep their categories. So if Gaga or Swift are winning everything else they're nominated for, it'll be one of them.

The Rap album category actually looks pretty decent.
I definitely think they would win over BEP.

Agreed. Other than Drake it was pretty good category.

This is basically the opinion of anyone who appreciates music (Which, apparently, isn't The Grammys).

If I were to guess further, I'm thinking that one of the two favorite girls will sweep their categories. So if Gaga or Swift are winning everything else they're nominated for, it'll be one of them.
I think the part most challenging to DMB right now is that they have no other nominations. THey don't have best song in the general or Rock categories and I don't think they will win either of them because of those indicators.
