Was wondering when someone was going to mention these. They're working on a third one right now, which has been pushed back to make room for a new ending (for obvious reasons). They're both excellent, but especially the first one.
As far as
30 for 30 goes, I've seen a bunch of them in the past two weeks.
Once Brothers, about the ending of the friendship between Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic over the Yugoslav Civil War was some heady, and heavy, stuff. One of the best. I also give decent marks for
Crossing Over: The Trial of Alan Iverson, as well. Done by the guy who did
Hoop Dreams, which, if it wasn't mentioned in this thread already, is one of the best documentaries of all time, sports or otherwise.
Lake of Fire is great, but really tough to watch (it's about the abortion debate, and doesn't spare the viewer images of anything). Directed by Tony Kaye, of
American History X fame, it's probably the most level-headed approach I've seen on such a controversial subject. It truly doesn't take sides, just reports the story from all angles.
