"Lyrically a mess" was probably not the best way to put it. I just meant it's not very put together lyrically. I don't mind songs that have improvised lyrics (I like 2007 Cornbread) but at some point I want Dave to sit down and write set lyrics to a song and not improvise it all the time.

Shotgun is easily the most overrated thing on these boards.

If Shotgun was finished and got some coherence to it, maybe it would have been better than every song on BW. It's got good music; but it was never finished (yet), so we don't know.

How is Big Whiskey overrated when at least 1/3 of this board says it sucks/ it's nothing special? People bitch whenever a set has more than 5 Big Whiskey songs. Nobody is saying it's as good as the Big 3. That would be overrating it. Most people put it on the same level as ED and many people say ED is better.

For me, it would look something like this, all based on how I like them in a live setting:

    Shotgun
    Why I Am
    LITHOG
    Seven
    Baby Blue
    Shake Me
    Time Bomb
    You & Me
    Squirm
    Funny
    Spaceman
    Gator Pie
    Dive In

To the 19 people who voted yes so far... You're crazy. Shotgun at this point doesn't bring much to the table. It's an extremely underdeveloped song that had a shitload of potential but at the moment it seems like it's gone to waste.

Shotgun is decent and I like it more than a few songs on the album, but I mean do you honestly think it's better than LITHOG? Not a chance in hell. I'd love to see an argument that's actually good as to how and why Shotgun would be even better than that, let alone the whole album

LITHOG is so extremely overrated it's disgusting. The song is pretty basic with a pretty decent jam at the end. What is so great about it? Average guitar work, etc. Nothing special.

Jeff and Carter own it live. LITHOG is like Two Step in that the most recent performance is the best one yet.

There are plenty of pretty basic DMB songs that are stellar. And riffs haven't really been a constant part of most of Dave's songs since 1996.

you could say the same thing about grey street or busted stuff. i personally love the lyrics and the various harmonies in the chorus...also the jam live is superb.

liothog shits all over too much, which people love mostly because it is on crash. if too much was on BW it would be a 'mediocre, overly simple' song.

That I completely disagree with. They are all basically the same. Obviously I'm missing something with this song.

I'm a huge fan of Grey Street. It's in my top 10, truncated or not, so you're not going to win that comparison with me

Most people don't love Too Much from what I've seen over DMB boards over the past 7 or so years. They all can take it or leave it kinda thing, and most people were dying for it to take a break.

I don't think it would be seen as overly simple, considering Why I Am is 10x more simple than Too Much, yet people LOVE that song.

So Spoon, Bartender, and Dreaming Tree must also be "pretty decent" jams because they're basically the same thing.

Nothing from BWGK cracks my top 50, but neither does Shotgun. Shotgun in 2006 was good, but everything since then kinda sucks. A bunch of yelling and poor lyrics.

This is a pretty bad argument. Decent jam? Pretty basic? Average guitar work? Can you be any more ambiguous? I could probably use those exact terms for any song they "jam out", especially on songs that both you and I love. Tell me, what makes this jam worse than any other jam on another song? Nothing. IF anything, this song is better than a ton of jams they do (especially of late) only because Jeff rips and Carter is actually playing in the pocket for once. I know you're not very big on BW man, but LITHOG is a fucking beast. Do I think it's there best song or anything like that? No, but I do think it's one of the best live songs they're playing right now at this moment.

What 50 other songs do you like more than LITHOG? Even if I ranked the entire Big 3 in front of it, it still would crack my top 50. Just curious.

Very well said. I think someone on here said it has Spoon like qualities, and I thought so too.
