I'm not looking for happy go lucky. I just dont understand why there is so much bashing for everyone's favorite band here.

we got all the normal non-bashing done in 2002-2004.. it got old.. so... here we are... just like dmb got sick of playing good music after 04.. we changed it up.. it's faster, heavier, and in your face now, some say it's better that way..

    -Rashawn only guest vocals

    -anywhere from 11-15 songs
-one song is over 8 min long(possibly 9:44? Lillywhite tweet)
-Last song is "best LAST song yet" in Stefan's opinion
-Tim's predominately playing acoustic for this album
-Lillywhite is pretty much DONE mixing
-Lillywhite tweeted "55 minutes" and we are assuming thats album length.

so unless i missed something which i probably did, thats where we are at so far guys...lots of progress from a week ago! hopefully next week we will have double this

Don't judge an album that has only been heard by maybe 6 people by just a length that the producer said and a live performance of one song that is rather quite good and has potential with a full band backing.

Also - we don't have confirmation that this "55 minutes" is without any extra jams that I remember Lillywhite saying could be on the album ala BTCS jams. Take away those BTCS "jams" then the albums is close to 60ish minutes.
I hope Lillywhite doesn't try to Re-Create BTCS. The "Jams" on BTCS were special and shouldn't be done again. Of course, if they do happen again I probably wouldn't complain. This album should be unique, just like all the other Lillywhite produced albums have been.

so there's some good news for all the fans who were wondering if Dave is going to be "lazy" with his guitar play on this entire album again or if he was going to return to his old habits of crazy chords. the more lillywhite tweets the more we learn.

    Awesome to hear!

Someone should tweet Lillywhite asking him if there are any songs we'll recognize on the new album, BESIDES Mercy. He's replied twice now to the same question saying Mercy is one we'll recognize...

idt he is saying predominantly on acoustic. to me. it sounds like he just means they might have jammed on/developed songs with tim on the acoustic, and then adapted to an electric guitar.. or tim plays all of dave parts ala crash

Oh, right...forgot about that. I will be shocked if we get 15 songs. But maybe there are some little jams between the songs, which would be sweet...

Considering how many albums these days clock in around 30-40 minutes, I think we're getting the modern equivalent of a long album.

I would say it is short, depending on how many tracks there are. This is basically the same length as Big Whiskey. What are the kinds of things you lose with an album that has 11 songs or more and 55 minutes? Go listen to that intro to Stone, how it gradually builds into the song, as well as the time spent on the strings with the Kronos Quartet. I'm slightly worried we'll lose moments like that. But ultimately I have faith in Lillywhite and the band. If they can make great albums with anybody, it is Lillywhite.

My take on this is Tim and Dave start the album acoustically but then Tim does electric after that. "acoustic with Dave to start" says nothing about predominately. Either way I will be satisfied, I am not worried about this album.

Why is everyone so sure "55 minutes" refers to the lenght of the album?? That seems awfully short for a DMB record (plus, I don't think Steve would record only radio friendly songs).
What we do know is that one song IS longer than 8 minutes - so let's say there were 12 songs in total on the album: in average, each song besides the 8+ one would have to be a little shorter than 4 minutes.

Which, I think is safe to say, is very unlikely.

Because someone asked Steve the length of the album the day before and he said that he would add up the tracks and let us know tomorrow (which was yesterday). So he kept his word and tweeted 55 minutes.

    Well, that's depressing!
Although, BS is shorter than that, and I think it's a great album.

    P. S. does anyone know who did the mastering on UTTAD? It's not on Wikipedia. All of the other albums (except Everyday and Stand Up) were done by Ted Jensen. But I think UTTAD has the best sound... Am I wrong?

correct me if I'm wrong but if one song is ~2 min and another ~8 and mercy was 3:20 (obviously not the studio time) that is 3 songs at roughly 13:20
if there are 11 song on the album and the album is 55 min that leaves 41:40 for 8 songs, or if there are 15 songs that 41:40 for 12 songs
if it is an 11 song album then that's about 5 minutes and change for 8 other songs, so any more songs on the album and you could dip down to about 4 minutes a song.

Do we know if the bolded means Rashawn was the only guest volcalist. Or, does it mean Rashawn only provided guest/background vocals (no trumpet)?

Rashawn is the only guest vocalist...although it hasn't been officially confirmed I would assume he plays trumpet on the album. But that bolded line was referring to him being the only back-up vocalist.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. I imagine there has to be at least some trumpet on the album.

if it is an 11 song album then that's about 5 minutes and change for 8 other songs, so any more songs on the album and you could dip down to about 4 minutes a song.
that sort of invalidates the whole post, yes?

It would be nice if he didn't play trumpet, but we've all been down that road of discussion before. I think DMB is a sax, violin, bass, drums and acoustic guitar band, but that's just me I suppose. I have my suspicions that Lillywhite will blend Rashawn's sound nicely.

@ABCanan acoustic with Dave to start

so he is saying its Predominately tim playing acoustic
naw what he prolly means is that they recorded similar to how they did previously with lillywhite where dave and tim recorded all the songs on acoustic and then tim went in and added in electric overdubs. Come on people, that at least is really cool that the basic tracks are back to having two acoustics going on them, should hopefully make for some really cool stuff.

oh and it'll be interesting to see where fonz plays rhodes on this record as well as where the hammond organ pops up, very interesting

that's what I took from it about Tim...their other recording processes have gone that route too I believe

Steve is really providing us with a lot of info lately (relative to what he has provided us with this past few months). I'm sure this has something to do with the certainty of info now that he is practically done mixing. But I can't help but wonder if he is letting more out now because the secrecy doesn't matter as much any more because we are close to some type of formal announcement.

Also, I find it outrageous that somebody wishes Dave was in a darker place. There is no reason to wish unhappiness on a person, especially a person that we all like and by all indications is a decent human being. Come on, grow up.
