It's a good, average album. I'd rank it with Big Whiskey and Stand Up.
Rating the songs...
SMTS: 6/10. Not really special; one I could skip over.
Two Step: 7/10. It's great live, and the intro to the studio version is fantastic, but it sorta goes downhill from there.
Crash Into Me: 10/10. DMB classic.
Too Much: 6/10. Really pointless and annoying. DEFINITELY worth skipping over.
#41: 9/10. Solid classic.
Say Goodbye: 7/10. It's OK but just goes on for too long without being that great.
DIDO: 6/10. God, this one's annoying! How the hell it managed to beat Rhyme & Reason in a recent poll is beyond me.
LYD: 8/10. After the near-torturous previous song, the acoustic guitar on this one is very soothing. No, it's not Lover Lay Down or PFWYG, but it's nice. The "I'm a puppy for your love" bit is sorta cheesy.
LIOG: 8/10. Not too special, but still very nice. The instrumental part is great and I especially love it live.
Cry Freedom: 9/10. Gorgeous, just gorgeous! Definitely one of the best songs on the record.
Tripping Billies: 7/10. Eh, I'm not too into this one. It's a good concert song, but not my favorite *braces self for slew of angry comments*
Proudest Monkey: 10/10. At the end of a hit-and-miss record, it's nice to get a damn near perfect track---I consider the studio version of this one better than almost any they've done live...at least since the mid-90's (seriously, what's with slowing this one down?)
So that's my opinion of Crash. I'm sorry I don't like it as much as other fans. And don't get me wrong---I LOVE UTTAD and BTCS. They are two of the best albums ever made.
