while i respect anyone's opinion on not like a particular solo or song, the audience let it be well known they were enjoying tim's single note insanity

Might not seem so on paper but it is. Solo's have rhythm. The movement of your fingers across the fretboard kinda help you get in the groove, its all muscle memory. When you have to sustain a vibrato for that long, that fast, on one string (eventually two) it can become extremely difficult. Lets keep in mind he was shredding that solo on an acoustic. Its a lot harder to do that with steel strings than it would be on an electric. The precision for that solo is just as hard as anything else.

Dave got into it a lot, you could hear his guitar getting more intense as well, and the crowd too. You can feel how intense everyone under that roof was feeding off of each other, so I'd say it was pretty spectacular in my opinion.

wow, thanks for that perspective. went back and watched with a newfound appreciation. great stuff indeed.

funny, i really liked it when i first saw it, especially the pressure/tension that is built up during the course of the solo.

i had to come to antsmarching.org to learn to dislike it.

    shame on me.

    long live Timmy.

Try keeping up with him sometime, I think you'll be surprised just how technically challenging it is.

I know it's tremolo picking and I know what he is doing, I never said what he does on that version is easy, it isn't. The comment was comparing that version to other things he has done which IMO trumps the Radio City version. I'm not a lead guitarist and won't be keeping up any time soon, vocals and rhythm guitar is my focus.

Again, not going to argue the difficulty, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's enjoyable listening.

I think we can come to a compromise on the LIOG solo: I'm an avid guitar player, and tremolo picking is NOT easy. But that doesn't mean that its not boring to hear. The crowd did enjoy it though and even Dave responded. Maybe the LIOG solo is just one of those things that's absolutely amazing to experience live but loses some of its glory when recorded.

I'm personally a bit more of a fan of the 3/29/03 show they released as a DMBlive release. It was always one of my favorite audience tapes of the many I had and I was really happy to see an official release of it.

Radio city is great no doubt about it, but I'd recommend giving that 3/29 show a listen if you haven't.

That's weird because on the Blu-ray that look Dave gives to Tim is "holy fuck you're good".

It's actually very good. Nearly impossible to play and the crowd loved it. Perhaps not your cup of tea, but that alone doesn't make it not good.

For some, sure. Obviously not for all.

That being said, I'm not really a fan of this release at all. I don't find the set or performances to be anything special.

However, if this show was never released, I would bet people would be clamoring for a release of this version of lie in our graves with the one note solo. I enjoy it occasionally but more often than not I'll listen to one from 03 or 99 if I'm in the mood for a D&T liog

Wow hard to believe that was a decade ago! I was in college and got a ticket last minute because I knew it would be special. It was. Glad to have been there!

Did the same solo last night except it was much much better and more tasteful. Last nights show will be worth the listen and to DL just for that solo alone.

I was at the radio city show. It was a great show. All D+t shows Are. But it wasn't one of the best ever, or even the best from that tour. Last nights show (Nashville n1) was superior to it. But last night was also maybe the best concert experience I've ever had.
