Its these people that is holding back this band, if they feel the need to heavily cater towards them.

yeah, i used to not like blue water so much but i finally heard the right version and fell in lurve with it. i think it's sort of an acquired taste, though.

haunting is a very good word to explain it
    and just plain gorgeous

I figured I'd top an old Blue Water thread rather than start a new one. After looking at the Sweet Briar liner notes and realizing that Blue Water was registered with the ASCAP in 1990...I'm wondering where Blue Water falls in Dave's earliest songs written? I'd check the "Song Tour," but it looks like the link is broken.

Just curious because I know Jane is considered one of his earliest songs, but Blue Water was registered 3 years prior.

I happen to love this song, but what if the band did a truncated version with only the jam, no lyrics. Just start at the Oh Oh Ohs a few times, and then let Boyd rip.

I don't get how anyone thinks this song is boring, but to each their own. It's classic old school DMB. I remember the first time I heard it on a DMB live mix tape someone gave me in high school from 1-26-93. It was on in the background, I was not paying too much attention and then about midway through the jam I stopped whatever I was doing and was kindly reminded for the 100th time why this is my favorite band.

I'm trying to remember if it was here or another site that had the timeline of when songs were written. It has to be very early, like probably first 10 songs. But that's my assumption based off of just sets and such.

This is what the Almanac has to say about it:

"This song has been officially released twice with printed copyright information (Warehouse 8 Vol. 1 and Live Trax 20), and both instances give it a copyright date of 1990, which seems inaccurate."

Blue Water is orgasmically good. They need to throw us a bone and bring it back for a tour like they did with The Last Stop.

It's top 20. Full on, 15 min long Baboon Farm. Not the 3min versions...

Live releases of stay have a copyright date of 2002. That 1990 date could just be a mistake.

because the first 3 minutes is incredibly quiet. people wont even know a song is being played. and boyd's solo takes a bit to really get going, so they're 5 minutes into the song before it gets to a point that someone who doesn't know what it is might become interested. you even said it yourself, it was background noise until about half way through the song. the fact that it is so quiet and no one knows what it is would bore the majority of the crowd.

I love the 2.25.1995 live trax release version. At this point, since the 9 minute version hasn't been played in 21 years, I'll take what I can get.

No idea about the date on Blue Water, but The Song That Jane Likes was on Dave's CD w/ Mark Roebuck (Tribe of Heaven, "Imagine We Were"), which is from 1989.
