Do you have trouble falling asleep? I've got something you haven't tried.

If you've tried basically everything, and still have trouble sleeping; try this blanket. My sister bought it for me about a month ago at an Autism conference.

I have no affiliation with the product, and it is expensive for a blanket... but it has changed my life.

This blanket means enough to me that I had to share it with anyone who might be struggling to sleep.

This is the one I have, but you can change the weight and shit based on your body type.

Yeah, like I need to sleep under the equivalent of a pile of rocks.

What's the science behind this thing?

I hear you, but it works.
No idea about the science of it.
My sister came across it on a trip she took and thought of me. I have had so much trouble sleeping my whole life. My go-to was always ambien or tylenol pm or drinking until I blacked out.
All I'm saying is: if there are people here that can't sleep, they should give this a shot, it's worth it.

Use weighted blankets with my clients. They work really well. You can actually make them yourself, as they can get pricey.

    http://www.sensacalm.com/10-therapeu...hted-blankets/

A good article on some of the benefits.

In my state we are moving towards using a lot of sensory tools such as this.

Nice! I never even considered a weighed blanket my whole life, I'm 34. I didn't know they existed.

I mean it when I say it has changed my life.

Edit: "Sensory tools" have been proven. I'm on board.

I bought a wedge pillow. It's a big foam right triangle. That was a life changer.

Yeah i work in a psych unit and we have these for the patients. they can't sleep with them but they can have them during the day to help anxiety

what other sensory tools have you found helpful? sometimes I give out hard candy to facilitate better focus during groups (crunchy foods and hard candy/gum are supposed to help with focus). lollipops also helpful for the patients that want to smoke a cig- just having something in their hand helps a little

The kids i work with all seem to really like using different hand figet toys when i have my individual or group sessions with them. Basically anything that they can use with their hands, like you said. Stress balls work in a pinch, but sometimes they need more tactile items (like silly puddy) to help them out.

    Also these: https://www.therapyshoppe.com/catego...ng-fidget-toys

Have worked well. They give that sensory and tactile feel they need.

If someone hasn't already answered this and if you really want an answer you can google research on "deep touch pressure". Fairly solid work has been done in this direction for certain populations for several decades on both humans and animals.

Edit: Ignore non thread reader before answering guy here.

I do have trouble sleeping (especially fucking staying asleep.)

This looks interesting, but I'm super sensitive to being too warm when trying to sleep, so I think this would be bad for me. Something that heavy is bound to be hot AF.

I use the soft ear plugs that are purple and you can buy at Stop n Shop by Care One for $3 a box.

I'm telling you, if you put in the soft earplugs before you go to sleep, you will be off to la la land (not the movie) and won't wake up until your alarm goes off. Has worked for me for over a year and I sleep great now.

If the plugs are to block out the sound, how do you hear your alarm in the morning?

Have you tried podcasts with soothing voices? Does it for me, even if it's incredibly interesting. If I'm x% tired, doesn't matter. Some NPR-like voice will knock me out. I think it's because you concentrate so much on the words, it's like counting sheep; you switch your brain off from outside distraction.

The earplugs usually just block out background noise, maybe someone talking a room over or a door shutting. My night stand is about 2 feet from my bed and my phone alarm is always loud enough to wake me up

but can't you then hear your own heartbeat? like I mean I've used a fan for the white noise that I've needed for sleep literally as far back as I can remember, and I like to often listen to radio plays on my mp3 player once I get in bed but before I'd fall asleep. But there's certain kinds of earphones I won't get because whatever it is about how they work, they amplify the inner sounds of my body too much. I genuinely can hear my heartbeat and, maybe oddly enough, that is NOT a good "white noise" sound for me.

yeah I put them (ear plugs) in and I'm off to sleep. I guess if you need the white noise, you won't hear them. I have my phone's alarm on blast so when it goes off at 6am, I hear it after the 3rd ring. But for whatever reason, once I put them in I drift off into sleep.

Dohms are great... we've used one for both of my kids. They do great as a barrier for noise outside of the room.

For me, all I need is a dark room and silence. Never needed any tricks, noise, ear plugs, booze, drugs, or special blankets. Once my head hits the pillow I get comfortable and fall asleep.

I guess I should consider myself lucky.

You can put them in your ears w/out all the way in and be able to hear something. I don't have kids or pets so my house is a reasonably quiet. I just fall into rem quicker with them in. But my alarm is on blast so after 3 or 4 times of ringing, I snap out of it.

It's almost like I've been conditioned at this point, putting in the earplugs is like flipping a switch

I just take clonazapam and i sleep like a baby

Prescribed to me to help with my intense restless legs at night, and its been a life changer. I actually get into deep sleep now and for 10, 15, years I didnt.

I also have a fan going for White noise, and if Im in a hotel room with a AC or Heating unit that isnt loud enough i put on a white noise app on my phone.

my brother-in-law is like this, and everyone in the family fucking hates him for it It's like his brain is so sympatico with the rest of his body, seemingly no matter where he is, if he lies his head down on a pillow he's out in less than 10 minutes. like it's that matter-of-fact of a physical reaction, "our head has come into contact with a pillow, that means we sleep!"

A trick that I used to use many years ago quite a few times, it's like a version of counting sheep (I'm assuming nobody literally does that ). But I'd go thru the alphabet and think of someone from my high school graduating class who's first name began with that letter. I never once made it to Z.

    $310?

How about I take a regular blanket and put some weights in it?

Or just do what I do...turn the air way cold, use five comforters. Even with nice comforters I'd still come out at half the price.

That is way too much money.

Interesting notion of the weighted blanket. There are also audio files you can get that work with brain waves and the various states of consciousness: Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta.

Thanks for sharing your find. I have a friend that could use this.
