Ken Griffey's Winning Run for SNES is the best game ever.

I'm sure this will be a pretty popular system for 6 months or so.

Based on the short popularity of the NES? The SNES? The Gameboy? The DS? The Game Cube? The Wii? The N64?

I’ll give you virtual boy, but that wasn’t ever popular at all.

I'll give you up until Gameboy. After that every system Nintendo released is just brought to shame by either Sony or Microsoft with thier next system. I have owned them all at one point too. Except DS.

Yeah, what a bunch of hacks over there at Nintendo.

In terms of appeal to actual gamers as well as content, sure.

But Nintendo does just fine in terms of sales and lasting appeal.

The heavy part or the N64 being better? N64 was awesome. I'm not doing the controller thing again.

I have not been a big fan of Nintendo since the N64. But, I have also grown up a bit since then. The wii was not appealing to me, even with the Nintendo franchise games. Nintendo has always been aimed towards family fun entertainment and they do well because of that and the die hard fans. Nintendo will always be a staple in the gaming world though. They just appeal to a different audience then the other consoles.

Just reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOcyayIVieo

Crazy thing about the Wii is that it seemed like it didn't really become that popular until '08 or '09, even though it was released in '06. I'm assuming it has to do with production/availability and a price cut, but around Christmas time a couple years ago, it seemed like everyone started getting them.

To me, it would make more sense to wait a bit and see how the 3D technology plays out. But I don't know much about video games.

on my phone, so I can't type too much, but people should go look into the nintendo revolution, which was the original console that was supposed to come out, but they scrapped it for the wii. It was going to compete with the 360, but right at the end they decided to scrap it and work on the wii. If this next console is the 2012 version of the revolution, I'd be pumped.

    I trust Nintendo...

    Last I checked they sold

    86.4 wiis... to
    53.o xboxes to
    49.3 ps3s

so as I see it they get out first they get the auto jump start.....if and it is a big if they get 3rd parties onboard it could be interesting..

I have always been a Nintendo fan...but honestly have not toughed my Wii...in a while interesting to see what will happen from this.

For me, Nintendo is just flat out my favorite company. I just feel like their focus as a company is on making games that are accessible and fun to play. I have a PS3 too, and I appreciate the horsepower and pretty graphics, but all too often I am finding myself sitting in front of ridiculously long load screens and longer (frequent) system updates that leave me out of the mood by the time they finish. I also grew up with the Nintendo characters and I feel safe with letting my kids experience those same characters. Nintendo makes some ridiculously stupid decisions, don't get me wrong, their online presence is atrocious.....but overall, I can safely say I probably would only play IOS games if there were no Nintendo.

On another note, I can't wait for Mario Kart on the 3DS.

Here's some Kotaku videos of hands-on with the new Wii U. Terrible name, but very intriguing system.

    "Zelda HD" tech demo- http://kotaku.com/5809555/zelda-game...-this-stunning

    Walkthrough of the controller- http://kotaku.com/5809519/take-a-tou...r-in-our-hands

The Shield Pose tech demo, showing off pretty impressive 1:1 recognition of movement, on screen. Remember, all of the processing happens in the console, so that's the controller sending the movement back to the console, processing there, and sending the video back with almost no noticeable delay: http://kotaku.com/5809517/watch-a-ma...play-the-wii-u

A stat sheet at the event is kind of sketchy on storage. Says it will have internal flash memory, support for SD cards/'usb based storage', but it seems to hint that it'll be external HDD compatible out of the box, possibly meaning the Wii U could be a home entertainment hub.

Earlier this week Kotaku heard that the U would use 25GB single-layer Blu-Rays (same as PS3) and would come with 8GB flash internal memory. In an interview today, a designer confirmed that the disc system would be 25GB, basically confirming Blu-Ray. But he wouldn't confirm the memory yet, just repeating that it will support external forms of memory.

I'm not really impressed with Wii U yet. The controller looks clunky and the gameplay just isn't there.

    I guess time will tell.

Re: New Nintendo console in 2012

To the latter, it's just a matter of timing. The system isn't going to be out until probably a month, maybe two, before next year's E3. So there's really not much they can do as far as showing things off, as there's nothing there yet. As I've guessed a few times, they'll probably run their own conference come, say, October, to announce the price point/release date/initial lineup, kind of like Microsoft did on MTV back in 2005.

And again, it's not like systems sit around done for along time. Talking about that 360 debut on MTV, the timeline for that was this: mid-May 2005, MTV unveiling. E3 2005, in June, the console was on the convention floor. And the system was launched in November 2005.

But here's the thing: the units that were on the convention floor? Weren't really even 360s. They were running off of PowerMacs, and it was later said that they were running at about 30% of the 360's launch capacity. So that console, just 5 months from launch, wasn't even done yet. So I can't really fault Nintendo for not having much, nearly a year out. If anything, I'd fault them on going too much too soon. Once Game Informer leaked information, I would've just put out an announcement saying "like all entertainment companies, we are always looking for ways to improve our products. We are currently looking into future opportunities, and will make an announcement at some time in the future." Or something bland like that. And then do their own launch event sometime in the fall, and blow people away with the launch lineup and new tech.

Was just confirmed that all non-Nintendo footage shown today was from other consoles. Not surprising; again, there's just not really a console yet. The devs have the kits, but they can't possibly have delivered anything yet. I'm happy, because the footage didn't look that great.

That's to be expected. What are the specs on the controller?

I read on USA Today that the discs are NOT blu-ray, but rather will be a proprietary discs the same size as Wii discs. Could still be 25GB I guess, they just aren't blu-ray from what I've been reading.
