Re: Live Trax 42: 9/14/07 - Sound Advice Amphitheatre - West Palm Beach, FL

I've listened to Disc 1 and IIHIA.... This version is ADSR really is beautiful and an upgrade on the version we already have. Solid disc 1, Loving Wing is very nice. I don't quite get the IIHIA love.... I get that it is unique to other versions but man... it's 3 plus minutes of the same chords repeating waiting for the song to start and then much more repetition at the end. Maybe I'm being shortsighted at the moment but an 11 minute repetitive, drawn out version of a mediocre song from their catalog isn't quite doing it for me.

If that's a criticism of If I Had It All, I won't hear it, and I won't respond to it.

    still no delivery... damn

the WH really needs to work on s/h options -- always so expensive for guaranteed delivery or kinda high for slow delivery

I finally have this in hand now, but I'm going to keep it in its wrapper until I go on a two hour drive I have planned coming up.

I think the IIHAIA is really good with the long intro and interpolation outro but the Shotgun is average compared to other versions I frequent. Obviously great mix on it though.

I personally still prefer the 2007 Sampler version, but I am in love with this one. Disc 2 has been on pretty heavy play in my car.

Yeah disc 2 has stayed in my stereo since it first went in. I haven't even gotten to disc 3 yet.

Fonzie, man. Whoa. Dude is on his A+ game during this entire show.

I personally really enjoyed A Dream So Real on this disc. If I Had It All is excellent, Grey St was pretty good, nancies, smts, even bayou and ants were all really good imo. Solid release, 6.5/10.

The IIHIA outro from 09.13.06 (WH8 Vol.5) is better, I may edit the two together to create the best version for a playlist for future extended (6+ hour) tailgates. I don't mind editing songs, I had ABI from RR'05 (the second performance) on a compliation for SPAC this year and edited out Dave's awful screeching - song plays much better without it getting into the real gold which is Carter going nuts.

Dave's voice is flawless on here. I love the little things Butch does at the beginning. That WH one is nice but it's a little overrated for me. And I just don't like Tim on Shotgun; he tries to mimic what Dave is playing and it sounds bad. The best versions of this song are from '07 and the one from '08. The very first one from '06 is okay too I guess.

But yeah, this one feels like the most polished version we've gotten on a live release.

It is a very good shotgun, but I prefer the 06 versions when he waited until the end to wail and not throughout the entire song.

Tim ruined shotgun when joining. That electric guitar effect sounds terrible. And then Dave doesn't play the riff half the time

I don't mind the 2012 Shotgun that's on the AFTW bonus DVD, but 2006 Shotguns definitely made me fall in love with the song.

That Hershey 2012 version just does more for me lyrically and emotionally. Love the "driven by a need, by some desperate necessity" and "Get down on the floor I don't wanna hurt anyone anymore" lines and the right amount of wailing.

I can't tell the difference between most Shotguns outside of 6/10/06, 9/23/06, and 6/23/06 (because I was there and it was kind of a mess).

It's the simplest version and for that you could say it's the best. Most others (including 9/23/06) are good but feel like Dave is trying too hard to be emotional and poetic.

This A Dream So Real is fantastic. From the piano to Daves accompaniment with the guitar. Also, really liked Loving Wings, Carters percussion is fantastic, the ending to Sweet Up and Down, a great jamming Crush and lots of good Roi on this. Pretty solid show, but don't really care for IIHIA, simply because the lovely ladies ruined that song for me when they started singing, "If I, If I, If I had it all" over and over. The Shotgun is chill and solid. The sound on this cd is simply great.

Since we're discussing Shotgun, the one from the recent WH CD is just unbelievable.

This version is ok too much "Yeah" screaming by Dave. 8-14-07 Shotgun is the best performance IMO. Daves Vocals are the most powerful i have heard them on any Shotgun. Give it a listen if you get a chance

Do you mean the Lovely Ladies generally ruined IIHIA for you, or on this release? They aren't on this release. That's Carter and Rashawn.

I like the song, but I don't disagree. It feels very "try hard" for Dave to be meaningful and it's just... a nice little song, nothing more.
