Everyone ready for the big merge tonight? Have to think that if Phil is left in the minority in his new tribe and he ends up at tribal, he is going home. But we have seen stranger things on this show. Like last weeks melt down.

I think Phil is safe even post merge - he is in the middle of a good alliance and will not get votes. Last week's meltdown was ridiculous. Does survivor have security people on hand?

Kind of a ho-hum episode last night. A little surprised with Matt going home. Obviously the Favorites on that tribe will pick off the fans, then wait for the merge to circle the wagons. The other tribe seems more combustible because the fans on that tribe are already run their mouths about each other, but they are strong so it will be a interesting to see if they lose a challenge.

He definitely is playing a better game then last season. Much more methodical about his approach, not showing too much, too soon. Will be interesting to see how things play out now the Corrine is on the other tribe and her and Phil don't get along. Plus with it comes to individual immunity, you see some of the stronger players going home early because strength at that point is a big target.

as a recent newcomer to survivor, has a middle aged woman ever won? They simply cannot compete in the physical challenges and I see no hope for Dawn, Corrine, etc.

Re: Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites II

Last seasons winner Denise was middle-aged. She sold out Malcolm to make it happen. I can think of at least 3-4 middle-aged women to win. I think most players over look them and they can get through to the end because they are not seen as threat, and most are very trust worthy so people players will work with them. And most are not huge physical threats, and are good at aligning with stronger players to help their game.

EDIT: The segments of people that seem to have the hardest time are the young attractive women, under 25 and the less-physical men, whether old or young. They tend to get picked off early.

great interview. sort of long, but answered so many questions I have had about this show: http://espn.go.com/espnradio/grantla...yer?id=8963425

EDIT: It really gave me a much greater appreciation of the show. Now I want to be on it even more.

holy shit what an episode. goddamn it if they would have just voted for Malcolm, that would have been one of the greatest moves ever, but good on him to be able to read their speeches.

But he didn't read their speeches correctly. They got him paranoid, got him to show his hand, and flushed (one) idol out without casting one vote for him or Reynold. Worked out pretty brilliantly for the favorites (minus Malcolm).

OR - and this would be epic - this was all a long con by Malcolm and the favorites to flush out Reynold's idol... Obviously a long shot, and not really necessary given the numbers, but that would be freaking sweet.

Probst has said that the players are really good about clueing in the producers on what their plans are, even if there is a backup plan, so i doubt that.

Malcolm still has the one hidden immunity idol now that NO ONE knows about, and now no one will think he has it because he just begged for one. Genius move. And he read their speeches right. If andrea hadn't freaked out, she'd be gone.

Plus, Reynold has found 2 straight idols, so maybe he'll find another?

    This season is good.

Interesting theory. Do not believe it to be true.

But this season has been awesome

Andrea is in complete control of this game now. Whatever she says goes. Favorites are cohesive (minus Malcolm).

Both her and Malcolm played very intelligently which is why neither of them got voted out.

    So good.

Also, did anyone catch on the reward when they were trying to sell the bro alliance reynold saying something to the effect of, "hope is gone so there's no girl worth f'ing anymore" and the camera panned to michael and cochran who looked incredibly uncomfortable.

I still don't see what you're saying about Malcolm reading the speeches. He didn't. He heard the speech from Phillip, thought that he was being targeted, brilliantly manipulated Reynold to give up his own idol, and turned out to be completely wrong.

Malcolm is screwed. Reynolds will hate him. Not only was Malcolm wrong on the vote, losing his idol in the process but also because Malcom then turned and voted for him! The favs will never trust him again because this now makes two votes in a row he tried to shake up their alliance and failed.

He still has his idol, so he's very much in the game, but he's on his own right now. And maybe the fans will still buddy up with him because they have no other choice, but they can't trust him anymore.

Unless the fans that have joined the favs switch (Sherri, etc.), the big 4 alliance is going to keep pushing. Malcolm, while I think he had to make a move, should never have told Dawn what his plan was. Why does everyone tell Dawn everything??

The only thing M can do is perhaps figure out who is going to be voted off next, and assuming the vote isn't split, give away his idol to whoever it is (Reynolds for example). That would be the only way to take out a Phil or an Andrea.

This is the only way he could change the game for himself and the guy fans. But I don't think it would ever happen because I don't see Malcolm giving up his idol under any circumstance.

I'm trying to think how he might play this next round, and the only thing I can think of is to completely turn his back on the guy fans, kiss all the asses on the favorites and tell them he'll vote with them against Reynolds and Eddie. That way, he may buy himself some time and prevent having to play his idol at the next tribal council.

The thing is that Malcolm had to tell Dawn. She is at the bottom of the totem pole with Sherri. Malcolm was right and if they would have switched they probably would have gone much further than they will now.

I definitely don't think Malcolm read the speech correct. He tried scrambling, then when he was wrong he looked completely confused.

Chelsea for sure. Though, that's not a knock on Andrea at all.

Dawn was the worst one to try to convince. She is older, and less willing to take risks. fact. She didn't in Cochrane's season. She didn't the week BEFORE with Corinne. Why would Malcolm think that all of a sudden she would switch for him? It wasn't his only choice and he likely just threw his game away.
