Good to know. My wifi can act up so that's why I was looking at it.

The 6p for me I didn't like the bump at the back. Won't be getting this one since I'm still paying off my 6S but it'll be interesting to see how it all works out. Probably nice to have a year to see if there are any major hiccups.

pixel, only on verizon, and a shift from nexus is a huge misstep from Google.

I disagree. The phone looks badass (specs and hardware wise), you can still buy an unlocked version directly from google(and use it on whatever network you want), and like it or not, "Assistant" is the future, and was also the real purpose of today's whole presentation, imo.

You can still buy it unlocked but you have to either pay the 650+ for the phone or can finance it like you do with most carriers now but with Google. I agree getting away from Nexus is kinda crappy. I mean they weren't cheap really but 650 starting point is much higher than most Nexus phones have been (sans Nexus 6). The phone is awesome though. I'll see how it goes and maybe I'll grab next year's model.

carrier exclusive phones, from a marketing perspective, only hurts Google. Not to mention, the update lag is bound to happen. Remember the last "nexus" Big Red had?

It's not the way it was back then though. It hurt Google 5 years ago because you couldn't purchase an affordable unlocked version in the US until months later. Now you can go get it from VZW or can buy it through Google and use it wherever. I got the unlocked Galaxy Nexus in April of 2012 and I was getting updates just fine while my friend with the Verizon one wasn't. I'm with you that the VZW one might have issues getting updates but people who buy it from Google won't have that issue. So it's not a real carrier exclusive since you can get it at launch unlocked. Now if you are saying it be better to be able to go right through the carrier the way of the Nexus 6 instead of forcing non VZW peeps to go to Google? Sure but we'll have to see how that plays out from now until next year.

I'm saying to the average user, not seeing this in store, or available at x,y,z for a GSM option hurts market share and competition with Apple. Not having the ability to bundle plan contracts, BOGOs, etc. For the power users, like us, buying on the Google Store is not a big deal (and almost expected).

How's the case feel? Too thick? Just right? Finger print scanner works ok with the case on? I like the look and the price so might have to save it for if I get the new one and hope they make a new case for the new phone.

Curious as to why you can't use the 7?

I do a lot of audio stuff that requires the need for a 3.5mm jack. The dongle is just one more thing that can be faulty in the signal chain and I would more than likely lose it pretty quickly because I'm at different locations a lot. I mean, technically I "could" use the 7, but my job relies heavily on that jack.

Ah gotcha, makes sense. Well you probably want to buy this year's model if you do cause rumors are the Pixel 2 (or whatever it'll be called) won't have one.

There's nothing like a naked phone, but I like a case, and so I like one that doesn't add too much bulk, and this does that. It's firm but flexible. Got that smooth rubbery feel that gives you some grip but isn't hard to pull out of your pocket. The buttons are great and there's zero interference for the camera or fingerprint sensor. In fact, it probably allows your finger to find it easier since there's a dip.

I also use this mount in my car, so I like to keep the magnet just sitting inside the case, rather than using the adhesive on the phone

Had it since Black Friday and still love it. It's still very fast and I like that it's not loaded down with bloatware, and you can remove what you don't want easier. The camera is incredible -- takes amazing low light photos without going into any special settings. The fingerprint sensor is probably my favorite. I never used it on the Galaxy S5 because it didn't work great, but this one does, and I love that it's on the back; very ergonomic. Google Assisant is very helpful as well.

I also like that you go into Settings and have "Support" right there with a button to call or chat, and you can just start basically texting with someone about any issues you're having right there on your phone. Also seems like with a Google phone you're closer to the updates. It has the latest software and I think it'll probably be one of the first phones to get anything new. That day when Wikileaks announced the vulnerabilities of devices, Google announced it had already looked into it and made security updates available on its devices. I checked as soon as I saw that article and mine was ready to go.

That's a good point about the fingerprint scanner. Without it you might not find it as easy. The mount thankfully I won't need with Android Auto in my Ford Escape. I can like the feeling of naked phone too but just feel better with a case, even just a rubber one.

Lotta new Google hardware announced today:
    https://store.google.com/

Obvi new phones and home devices (plus one big-ass smart speaker), but what seems coolest to me is the wireless earbuds. They did a live demo onstage of the earbuds (which have Google translate built-in) and it does "real-time" translation. Like, a person talks in their native language and the earbuds play it in English for you. Star-trek level stuff...

I held off upgrading to the iPhone 8 for this demo and I was underwhelmed. I think i'm just going to wait and get the iPhone X now.

Really want the pixel 2 XL, love my pixel now but the bezels do look dated. Does anyone know if the features like ambient always on and Google lens will be pushed to Oreo as well or are they exclusive? I know ambient always on is hard programed but off currently .

Very cool showcase. Lots of cool stuff but not really anything that made me sit up and say "wow I have to have that!!" Aside from the babblefish earbuds. I wish they were a little more low profile though.

Since I'm now forced into dongles I now have to decide if I want to stay with Apple or switch to the Pixel. Neither phone really has anything that excites me over the other. Though I do like how Google is headed in the adaptive ai/learning direction.

I'm still using phablet Nexus 6, it's been a great phone but looks like I might have to start looking for something new as I've read that Nov. is going to be the last month for security updates
